Skill development news from academia and government

Post cyclone Fani, power restoration in Bhubaneswar, Puri carried out by ITI, polytechnic students: In order to restore power supply in the City, the State Government is taking the help of ITI and polytechnic students in Puri. More than 500 students of different polytechnics and ITIs have been pressed into service to assist Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) for restoration of power supply to domestic consumers.

 NIOS signs MoU with state health society vocational training: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and National health mission, Public Health Department, has signed a MoU to offer Vocational programmes to the Health Service Providers of National Health Mission (NHM) through NIOS. They aim to impart uniform, structured and quality training to Multipurpose Health Workers, Class III Male Health Workers and Community Health Workers.

 Special recognition for SDM ITI, Venur under STRIVE project: SDM ITI, Venur has received special recognition from union government through Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value (STRIVE) project of skill development ministry. The ITI has received grant of Rs 2 crore reserved for skill development programs, extension activities, higher standard of training and implementation of better equipment in the college.

National skills registry by government to match jobseekers and employers: The skill development and entrepreneurship ministry is setting up a national skills registry to match trained job seekers and apprentices with employers. It will initially capture data of nearly 20 million trained people and will build a system to match them with around 20,000 companies and organisations.

Vocational Training Market Growing Demand and Trends 2019 to 2025: A report has been released that focuses on the Global Vocational Training Market status, future forecast, growth opportunity, key market and key players. The objective of the study is to present the Vocational Training Market development in United States, Europe and China. It shows that the outlook for vocational education and training providers is bright: the focus on labour market issues is sharp and the importance of industry connections is more valuable than ever. The increased focus on having all students – ‘job ready’ will act as a significant driver of demand.

Skill development news from the industry

12000 tyre mechanics to be trained by RSDC: Under its Saamarth project, Rubber Skill Development Council, has launched a huge drive to upskill tyre mechanics across India. As many as 12000 tyre mechanics will be upskilled across the State highways of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha under this project. This training of tyre mechanics popularly known as tyre fitters has won RSDC the coveted ATMA Tyre safety partner award at the recently held ATMA Annual Convention 2019.

Volkswagen India committed to enable girls pursue engineering degrees: Volkswagen India signed a MoU with Lila Poonawalla Foundation towards the education of girls from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. As a part of this MoU, Volkswagen India has committed to invest ₨ 84 lakhs towards the education of 40 girls.

5000 student days of training surpassed by Pratt & Whitney Customer Training Center: Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp, has completed over 5000 student days of skill-based training at its customer training center in Hyderabad. It is offering specialized DGCA and EASA Part 147 approved training for airline customers and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, and academic skill development programs to increase the growth of the aviation sector in India.

Amazon encourages skill development by launching Alexa Skill Blueprints : Amazon has launched Amazon Skill Blueprints to encourage the Amazon Skill development. This will enable users to publish their skills created using Alexa Skill Blueprints to the India Alexa Skills Store.

CII directive for FAME to be supplemented with steps to boost EV adoption: CII says, policies like FAME need to be supplemented with measures such as domestic manufacturing of vehicles, batteries and components to boost mass adoption of electric vehicles by 2030. It said India can save 64 per cent of anticipated road-based mobility-related energy demand and 37 per cent of carbon emissions through these measures.

Karnataka

Toyota Technical Training Institute admissions open for the year 2019-2020: Working towards its initiatives in the area of Skill Development, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced the opening of admissions for the academic year 2019-20 of Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), a dedicated 3-year program that provides opportunities for intelligent students from economically weaker sections across Karnataka.

Nagaland

Nagaland to have a job Fair at Mon Town on May 16: Unemployed youth of Mon district have been given an opportunity to attend a job fair organised by The Emporium Skill Training Institute at the Council Hall, Mon Town on May 16, 11.30 am.

80 students selected to undergo PMKVY training: After two days of interview, 80 students have been selected to undergo training at Emporium Skill Training Institute (ESTI) in Dimapur under PMKVY scheme. The students were selected at the campus interview conducted by The Ritz-Carlton.

Uttar Pradesh

7 government schools adopted by 4 private groups to improve education: The district administration signed a MoU with four private groups, including an NGO to improve quality of education and increase technological intervention in government schools of Noida and Greater Noida. They have adopted seven government schools in the district to provide end-to-end solution focusing on skill development.

Skill development programme supported by FedEx & SEED: FedEx Express, in association with the Society for Educational Welfare and Economic Development (SEED), has announced its support for a sustainable skills development program in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Women and youth will be trained in basic computer skills and industrial visits to gain practical exposure to the workplace environment, the training program also includes sessions on personal development, career counselling, and mock interviews.

CSR in skill development and other news

BSDU and Disha Foundation to promote skill-based training among youth: Bhartiya Skill Development University today signed MoU with DISHA International Foundation, an NGO, in order to promote skill-based education. As per the MoU, DISHA Foundation will provide students of BSDU with internships and placements, along with student exchange programs which will help students get training abroad.
