The beauty and apparel industries are two prominent sectors that employ women in large numbers. The sectors are growing at an ever-increasing speed and young women are getting more opportunities to excel themselves. With the changing consumer behaviour and market scenarios, both these sectors are providing diverse career prospects to aspiring women. We caught up with some of the successful women in the beauty and apparel sectors who are so passionate about their work .Let’s read on to know more about them…..
Shilpa Tiwari – Apparel industry
Shilpa Tiwari runs her own NGO called Astha Seva Samiti in Lucknow where she trains young women and girls in Chikan work and also helps them set up their SMES. Her team even provides e-commerce training to the students and helps them sell their products via Amazon etc. They target girls from remote areas in and around Lucknow and mobilise them and bring them to Lucknow for the training. She has so far trained about 2000 people through her organisation and currently about 120 girls are undergoing the training.
In 2014, she underwent training in a sewing machine course and has been working since then. She quit her job and started this NGO. She has faced several challenges in her career especially as she is a single mother raising her child who is in 9th grade now. She was awarded the Women Entrepreneur Achiever award by the Delhi Management Association for her commendable efforts.
Karishma Gupta, Beauty industry
Karishma Sunil Gupta represented India in Beauty Therapy with support of Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council and LTA School of Beauty at the Abu Dhabi World Skill Competition 2017 where she won the Medallion of excellence . She missed the bronze medal by just point five marks. She stood 6th of 29 competitors scoring above France, Switzerland, Singapore, Germany and Japan. She is currently working with LTA School of Beauty as a Trainer & Training candidates of Beauty Therapy for this year World Skills Competition Kazan 2019.
Neha Chande, Beauty industry
Neha Chande brought the first Gold medal to India in skilling from the Oceania Skill Competition held in New Zealand in Beauty Therapy. A candidate in Beauty Therapy from Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council, she competed with Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea and many other countries. A very passionate and ambitious Beauty professional , Neha was also the India Representative in Beauty Therapy at the Sao Paulo World Skill Competition 2015 and bought laurels to the country by winning the Medallion of excellence at the competition
Neha is currently a successful entrepreneur running two enterprise i.e. “Indian School of Beauty” and Amygdala – Reframing mindset . Let’s celebrate her success so far and grace her this Women’s Day.
