Top highlights in skill education in India
- The Centre relaunches ‘Skill India’ program to train 1.45 lakh youth in the north-eastern region in future-ready skills with industry-backed job opportunities.
- Apprenticeship enrollment in India under NAPS increased by 26.08% this year. Maharashtra leads, followed by Tamil Nadu. NAPS, launched in 2016, continues as NAPS 2.
- In the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, over 95% of women have surpassed men in opting for skills training, with tailoring being their preferred trade.

Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET
- MSDE has partnered with Mahindra and Mahindra for two pilots under the Drone Didi Yojna and aims to train 15,000 women in drone-operated agricultural tasks, creating new tech-based livelihoods.
Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government
- Honda India has launched an initiative ‘Stree Sarthee’ to empower women and improve road safety through female cab driver training at IDTR Karnal.
- UCB organized a day-long training for 200 agri-entrepreneurs at Barun High School in Gazipur district under the ‘Bhoroshar Notun Janala’ agricultural support scheme.
- The one-week skill development program on “Various Agricultural Technologies for Livelihood Security” concluded at the College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
- Starting from the upcoming academic session starting July-August 2024, ITIs are set to introduce heritage skills and advanced tech courses like AI and Internet of Things to bridge the skill gap.
- TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship (TLDA) has partnered with Genpact to employ 5,000+ graduate apprentices through the Ministry of Education’s program.
Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies
- According to a report from Xpheno, India has less than 2,000 skilled senior AI engineers to match the industry needs in building AI core products.
