Here are some News Bytes covering various happenings and updates in the ITIs, the industry, government and other stakeholders in the skilling and VET space. Skill training for gardeners at CIH Nagaland concludes

A skill development course for gardeners was conducted by the Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland at their campus. The course duration is 260 hours and is accredited by Agriculture Skill Council of India. A total of 17 trainees from different districts of Nagaland participated in the course. This course aims at providing in depth understanding on nursery management, propagation planting material, plantation, maintenance and care of garden.

180 urban poor given certificates for completing skill training

180 urban poor students were handed over certificates by the GPTI Welfare Society (GTPIWS) for completing their skill training in various trades like mobile phones hardware, videography, photography, and construction painters. This was conducted in collaboration with the urban development & housing department.

Separate Directorate for Technical Education to be set up in Tripura

According to the Education Minister the Tripura government has decided to separate the Directorate of Technical Education in addition to expanding the canvass of placement for technically educated youths. He said the state government has chalked out a detailed plan for stream-lining technical education to ensure expanding job opportunities in the sectors.

Training program for weavers of Tripura conducted by Chanu Creations

Chanu Creations in Imphal has trained 187 weavers under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), in Radhanagar of Tripura and 150 weavers in Bridyanagar of Tripura in the job role ”Two Shaft Handloom Weaver” as PIA under NSDC.

40 students undergo Life Skill Training program in Assam

Students of different schools underwent the Life Skill Education training successfully organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan , Hailakandi in Assam. Certificates were given to the students upon completion of the seven-day training.

IndianOil to skill 600 youths in Delhi-NCT under CSR

Indian Oil’s Refineries Headquarters is taking up a major drive to train 600 youths from Delhi-NCT region in various training courses to support the Skill India campaign. In partnership with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) it is carrying out these skill training programmes. The beneficiaries are mainly from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, and a special emphasis has been placed on skilling girl students. These kind of skilling schemes for youth have been rolled out in all the 9 refineries of IndianOil located in the states of east and northeast, north and west of India, which will benefit about 2500 youths.

NTR Trust Skill Development Centre inaugurated in Vijayawada

‘NTR Trust Skill Development Centre‘ was inaugurated in Vijayawada This SDC is the third such centre run by the NTR Trust and will be offering free residential courses in warehouse packing and smartphone assembly, and is a part of the CSR initiative of Heritage Foods and Shri Technologies is their technology partner.

Maintenance skills courses in mechanical and electrical areas introduced by TPSDI

India’s largest integrated power company, Tata Power via its skill development initiative, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) is successfully enhancing employability and uplifting the economic conditions of people in and around its operational areas. TPSDI is a Training Partner with the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) of India. In line with the vision of making India the skill capital of the world, TPSDI is offering several skill development programs to equip youth with employable skills. For this TPSDI has introduced a “Maintenance Skills Course” for mechanical and electrical engineers at Maithon and Jojobera.

Skill development programmes launched by IIT-alumni

Pan IIT Alumni Leadership Series (PALS), launched its 2018-19 annual activities that are aimed at making engineering college students ‘Industry ready.’ PALS is a body comprising of alumni from various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country and they offer a one year program with various activities for students, faculty and also the management of Engineering Institutions.

Number of Students Securing Admission in ITIs on the rise

This year the procedure for gaining admission in the central government’s Industrial Training Institutes has been made online. It was seen that more than 91,117 students had secured admission in various curriculums. Compared to last year, there has been a four per cent increase in the number of admissions. Students are giving priority to courses like electrician, fitter, machinist, diesel motor mechanic, electronics machinist etc. in ITI. Also students are now treating these courses as a priority and are choosing ITI over diploma courses.

Jharkhand students qualify for national level contest in WORLD SKILL SUMMIT

David John Nag, Mohammad Michael Ansari, Sajjad Ansari, Prakash Sharma and Aditya Singh qualified for the national round after giving tough competition to their counterparts at regional contest organised in Bhubaneswar. These skilled youths with specialisations in different trades will represent Jharkhand in the upcoming national level contest of World Skill Summit. The national level contest will be organized in mid-October at New Delhi.

Tech Mahindra partners with Futureskills to reskill employees

IT services firm Tech Mahindra announced that it had partnered with FutureSkills, a NASSCOM initiative to train its workforce in next-gen technologies. FutureSkills is powered by Edcast, a Silicon Valley organization for personalized learning. This is aimed towards upskilling and reskilling its employees to enable them to deliver innovative and cutting-edge solutions to customers.

NSIC signs 2 agreements for skill enhancement in Odisha

India’s National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) recently signed two agreements for skill enhancement in Odisha. The first, between Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and National Scheduled Tribe Finance Development Corporation, will set up a livelihood business incubator at Rourkela for tribal youth, and the second with SAP will train youth on enterprise software. NSIC is under the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).

Edimpact Launches Project Surya Kiran – Solar Energy Based Digital Literacy Van

To counter this Edimpact, a company based out of Jharkhand, has developed a mobile computer lab that is powered by solar energy and does not require electricity. The Maruti EECO van has been redesigned with a 1KVA inverter and battery powered by solar panels on the roof. The vehicle interiors have been redesigned to power 5 laptops and one demo computer and is equipped with Wi-Fi Internet. 6-7 students can sit and learn. The system has a backup of 6-7 hours in case of solar energy is not available else it runs directly on solar energy.

The country’s first World Skill Centre (WSC) is coming up at a newly constructed 18-storey building in Bhubaneswar.

A state-of-the-art glass and steel facility spanning 5 lakh sq ft including a helipad, World Skill Center (WSC) will offer youngsters advanced skills in leading sectors including manufacturing and services sector to begin with.
