Skill development news from the government
- This year, under PMKVY, a total of 1.32 crore candidates were trained and oriented across the country as of 21st November 2021.
- MSDE has collaborated with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to offer skill courses to school students and ITI graduates through distance learning mode with an aim to create synergies between school education and skill development.
- Ministry of Rural Development organized job fairs across the country as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to benchmark wage placement linked skill development program under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). This fair was organized between 17th– 23rd December 2021.
- Drop-out students can now find employment as the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India has made a skill-hub centre with free vocational courses at Kendriya Vidyalaya number 3 BSF Panthachowk, Srinagar.
- With a focus on providing rehabilitation, medical facilities, counselling, education, skill development and economic linkages to the transgenders, the Standing Finance Committee had approved the “SMILE” sub-scheme on November 30, 2021.
Skill development news from the industry
- Skill Lync has joined hands with AMTZ to address the skill gap in the medical device industry that have a massive shortage of design engineers and researchers. This programme will be for 12 months.
- A report by TeamLease Digital said that IT-BPM industry is expected to hire 3.75 lakh in the financial year 2022. The report claimed that the industry which is on a positive hiring is likely to touch ten million employees based in next five years.
- Aiming towards creating online legal training, enabling geo-arbitrage of legal talent and access to justice, the World’s largest legal Edtech company LawSikho is offering 64 courses ranging from master’s degree programmes to certified courses.
Skill development news from the states
- Bihar – Aiming towards employment to the youth, the Bihar government has partnered with Tata Technology to launch six new courses like arc welding, industrial robotics and others. This course will start next year.
- Maharashtra – Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has inaugurated the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy, a first-of-its-kind state-run institute for faculty development in the country focusing on creating a new curriculum according to availability of employment
- Odisha – To empower the youth in skilling and make them employable, the Central government has approved six ITIs and ten SDCs for six LWE affected districts of the state. The students will get skill training with vocational education.
- Telangana – Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) Limited has completed its first batch of Skill Development Program which was executed by Telangana Academy Skill and Knowledge (TASK) in collaboration with the Life Science Sector Skill Development of the Government of India.
- Telangana – To support orphans and needy youth by training them in professional and social skills, a new skill development centre which was established by Yashoda Charitable Foundation was inaugurated at Medipalli-Rampur villages at Warangal.
- Uttar Pradesh- With an aim to introduce new courses in state-run Polytechnic colleges and ITIs, the Uttar Pradesh government has appointed a special task force which will be approved within a month.
