India – Australia Toolkit to Strengthen Applied Learning in Secondary Schools

A new Toolkit developed by the Australia India Institute and partner institutions will help Indian secondary schools integrate applied learning into mainstream education. Aligned with NEP 2020, it offers practical resources for curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and industry partnerships, thereby strengthening India-Australia education collaboration. Highlights from this week’s Newsbytes 

  • SHRM India’s Skill Intelligence Report 2026 highlights widening skill gaps in AI, digital and future-ready capabilities, urging faster workforce upskilling to meet industry demands.
  • The Centre has formed a high-powered ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Committee to align skills, jobs and services-sector growth, targeting a 10% global market share by 2047.
  • India has sent a five-member contingent to the Taipei Capital Cup WorldSkills Invitational Tournament 2026, showcasing vocational excellence ahead of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi distributed over 51,000 appointment letters under the 19th Rozgar Mela, boosting youth employment across key government sectors nationwide.

National skill development updates

  • NSDC and Japan-based Fourth Valley Concierge Corporation have partnered to strengthen workforce mobility, creating trusted pathways and employment opportunities for skilled Indian professionals in Japan.
  • India’s CDMO sector is witnessing a sharp rise in demand for AI-enabled skills, with AI-linked hiring growing significantly as companies accelerate digital transformation.
  • A shortage of certified gas plumbers is slowing India’s PNG expansion, underscoring the need for large-scale skilling to meet the government’s ambitious energy infrastructure targets.

State initiatives driving skilling and innovation

  • Uttar Pradesh will establish DREAM Skill Labs in 600 government schools through Nelco Limited, a Tata enterprise partnership, equipping students with skills in robotics, electronics, and advanced technologies.
  • Nagaland’s Lotha community honoured board exam achievers, with officials urging students to complement academic success with technical, communication, and employability skills to unlock future opportunities.
  • Haryana has opened ITI admissions for 2026-27 across 377 institutes, offering technical and non-technical trades for eligible Class 8, 10 and 12 students.
  • NSE and Karnataka’s Higher Education Department have launched a Student Skilling Program to strengthen financial literacy, securities market knowledge and employability among youth.
  • Uttar Pradesh is expanding skill development with a focus on robotics, electric vehicles and other new-age technologies, aligning vocational training with future industry needs.
  • Uttar Pradesh is upgrading ITIs into Centres of Excellence with support from Tata Technologies and Deloitte, equipping students with Industry 4.0 skills and enhancing global employability.
  • Karnataka will host the second Bengaluru Skill Summit in November 2026, bringing together global stakeholders to advance workforce readiness, employability and economic growth.
  • Chennai’s General Cariappa Higher Secondary School has undergone a major smart upgrade, adding modern classrooms, science labs and improved infrastructure for students.
  • Tamil Nadu’s government polytechnics have recorded near-total placements this year, highlighting strong industry demand for diploma graduates with practical, job-ready technical skills.
  • Haryana is modernising its ITIs with advanced workshops and industry-aligned training programmes to equip students with skills for emerging sectors and future jobs.

Industry partnerships and workforce readiness

  • TISS-SSE and Maharashtra’s MahaIT have partnered to launch industry-aligned skill training programmes, focusing on emerging technologies, employability, innovation and youth empowerment.
  • HSSC and CBPACS have signed an MoU to promote Ayush-sector skill development, vocational training and certification, creating employment opportunities in Ayurveda and allied healthcare fields.
  • A Google. org-funded initiative will use AI-powered tools to enhance digital learning, teacher training, literacy and numeracy, benefiting millions of students nationwide.
  • Maruti Suzuki has opened an Advanced Manufacturing Lab at Government ITI Hassangarh in Haryana, providing industry-aligned training to enhance students’ technical skills and employability.
  • NAREDCO Telangana and ESCI have partnered to deliver industry-focused training and certification programmes, strengthening skills, sustainability and technology adoption in construction and infrastructure.
  • ESSCI has launched a talent development initiative at Rajasthan’s ELCINA Electronics Manufacturing Cluster to build a skilled workforce for India’s growing electronics and semiconductor industry.
  • Ericsson and the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) have launched a nationwide 5G skilling initiative to train 10,000 ITI students in telecom technologies and boost industry-ready talent.
  • Air India and the Indian Army have signed a pact to provide vocational training and employment opportunities for Veer Naris and their children, strengthening skill development and livelihood support.

CSR initiatives in skills and livelihoods

  • Legrand India has launched its first training institute in Maharashtra, aiming to skill over 1,000 youth annually and boost employability through industry-focused training.
  • GRSE has partnered with TRCSC under its CSR programme to provide skill development opportunities for unemployed youth and promote sustainable livelihoods for small farmers.
  • Adani Skills and Education has partnered with the Gujarat government to transform 11 ITIs in Kutch, strengthening industry-linked skilling and employment opportunities for local youth.

Higher education, technology and digital skills 

  • MANUU invites applications for free ITI courses at its Hyderabad campus in five trades. Eligible Class 8 and 10 students can apply by May 26, 2026.
  • AICTE has launched the Industry Fellowship Programme 2026, enabling faculty members to gain one year of industry exposure and strengthen industry-academia collaboration for future-ready technical education.
