6 lakh youth to be trained under the Utkarsh Bangla scheme in Bengal
To give a boost to skill development and create employment opportunities for students, the Bengal government is targeting to train around 6 lakh youth in the current financial year, in the state. The government has urged private players and industries to play a constructive role in providing training to the youth. The Minister said that while educational institutes are churning out an increasing volume of graduates, their job readiness and subsequent placement is a matter that needs to be effectively focused on. An integration of Academia and Industry with proper preparation and skill training is the need of the hour.
Kia Motors India inaugurates 5 acre training center at its Anantpur Plant
Kia Motors India which is a subsidiary of Kia Motor Corporation, South Korea inaugurated a 5 acre training facility at its Anantpur plant. They also introduced a Basic Technical Course (BTC) in automobiles for skill development.This course has been designed by Kia Motors for all those who wish to work in the automobile sector at the entry level shop floor workmen position. In this collaboration KMI is partnering with AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) as a part of its contribution to Skill India initiative by the Government.
Cisco to positively impact 50 million people in the nation by 2025
Cisco has committed to positively impact 50 million people in India by 2025 through its social initiatives and partnerships. Its target globally, is at one billion and they have reached out to some 220 million people so far. As a part of giving back to society, companies are moving from one-time donations to investing in social organisations and skilling programmes to create a sustainable model that can be replicated and scaled.
22,000 rural markets will be linked to Electronic National Agriculture Market portal
The Centre announced that 22,000 rural markets would be linked to the Electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) by 2020 as part of its initiative to double the income of farmers. The e-NAM is a pan-India electronic trading portal and a network of the existing Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities. The portal will provide a single window service for all APMC related data and services. The Union Minister of State for Agriculture in Orissa said “22,000 rural haats will be upgraded to Gramin Agricultural Markets and linked with the e-National Agriculture Market to enable farmers sale directly to potential buyers”.
Jharkhand State Delegation visits Germany and Switzerland
A high level delegation led by HRD Minister in Jharkand completed its study tour of Germany and Switzerland on June 27.The study tour was planned during the MoU signed by the State government with European Foundation of India during Global Investors’ Meet 2017 and the purpose was to visit maximum companies and study their works, operations. The State had signed a MoU with german firm Siemens. As per Siemens study centres have been set up at BIT Sindri and five Polytechnic institutes, where every year 11,000 students will be trained and made ready for jobs. 13 more centres will be set up soon which will train 33,000 students.
In Germany, Switzerland and Austria, vocational courses are very important. There are several institutes that run on their own and some run with government aid but all certificates are accredited and world class. The training system is dual, which involves class room teaching and practical application. Apart from technical knowledge internship in companies is mandatory, which gives an overall exposure to the students.

Certificates for skill development courses distributed in Manipur
Union minister of state for Electronics and Information Technology visited the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Imphal, interacted with the trainees and distributed certificates to trainees of skill development courses. A total of 30 trainees who were trained under the Surya-mitra skill development programme and 45 others trained under LED Light Repair Technician course were handed certificates on completion of the two months duration course in the institute. A group of eight trainees in the institute created ‘Senapati LED’ made of LED bulbs and presented to the minister.
MESC launches PFAMES Academy along with Prime Focus
Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) which is a non-profit skill-building organization under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), announced the launch of a specialised training division called Prime Focus Academy of Media and Entertainment Studies (PFAMES). This academy will admit 100 students in its 12 centres across 8 cities upon conducting an entrance examination for its inaugural batch.
PMKVY Computer Training Institute inaugurated in Arunachal Pradesh
The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh inaugurated a computer-training institute run by Yuva Vikas Society under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The basic computer course is of three and a half months duration and about 60 students have enrolled for it. The CM said that this institute is the second PMKVY training centre in the state capital and 27 others such centres would open soon in Arunachal.
EPTRI trains graduates in Green Skills in Hyderabad
Environment Protection and Training Research Institute (EPTRI) and Envis, its resource partner conducted a certificate course on ‘Preparation of People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) under the Green Skill Development Programme as part of the Government’s national skill development programme. 20 science graduates were given training from June 11 to 30. The students were given theory and practical lessons, and were taken to the field for research. This certificate course will serve as a source of opportunity for the students to find employment with State Biodiversity Boards and Forest Departments across the country, as there is a huge demand of skilled biodiversity experts.
