IT sector to create 2.5 lakh jobs: Highlights from first ever “World Skills India – International Cloud Computing Challenge, 2019” being held in Delhi – World Skills India, under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and World Skills International, for the first time in India, has organized International Cloud Computing Challenge, 2019 from 1st – 6th July 2019 at NASSCOM Campus, Delhi. Annual family income criteria for vocational training scheme increased by Delhi government: The Social Welfare Department’s proposal to enhance the annual family income criteria by Rs 2 lakh under the scheme of imparting vocational training to SC, ST, OBC, minorities and physically handicapped people was approved by the government in Delhi.

Youth being trained for overseas jobs by the skills development ministry: Skills development ministry is conducting country specific programmes to train youth get jobs overseas. In the initial phase so far, 107 candidates have been placed in Gulf countries and Japan while 48,000 prospective candidates have been trained for emigration.

Industry and CSR news in skill development

28 lakh jobs to be created in rural India over decade through Artificial Intelligence, IoT:  Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence based applications will create over 28 lakh jobs in rural India in the agriculture and rural healthcare sector over a period of 8 to 10 years with an annual value of Rs 60,000 crore, as per a study.

CREDAI to train 13,000 construction workers in 2019-20: As the construction industry is struggling with shortage of skilled workforce, CREDAI is aiming to train 13,000 workers by 2020 across the country with the help of government-backed skill training agencies.

TSSC organized Telecom Manthan 2019 in association with Voice&Data: Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in association with Voice&Data organized the second edition of Telecom Manthan 2019 on 28th June at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi. Read more…

Two Digital Academies launched by Capgemini in India to boost skill development: Capgemini has launched its Digital Academy in India at Mumbai and Pune aimed at bringing marginalised sections of society within the fore of the productive population, which translates to the development of digital skills in the modern context.

CIL and NLCIL come together for development work under CSR: Coal India Limited, its subsidiaries and NLC India Limited take up development activities like infrastructure development, skill development, social empowerment, water supply, health and sanitation, sports & culture and education facilities etc. under their CSR activities.

Credits may be given for skill training to school students: India is looking at a major revamp of secondary education by introducing a credit system for skills training after class 8 and 10.

New courses introduced to cater industry needs by the Fisheries University: To meet the demand of skilled manpower in fisheries and aquaculture related industries, Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University has started new diploma and bachelor degree level vocational courses from this year.

IKGPTU, THSC come together to develop skilled manpower: IK Gujral Punjab Technical University has signed a MoU with Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council to develop skilled manpower by the industry.

B.Voc course to add credit to B.Tech in Thiruvananthapuram: In order to help B Tech students who could not get sufficient credits to pass the course, APJ Abdul Kalam University will start B.Voc course from 2020 academic year.

Andhra Pradesh

Polytechnic students get skill development training in Tirupati: A skill development training course commenced for the final year mechanical engineering students of government polytechnic college at the Sri City-Siemens Technical Skill Development Institute.

60-day Retail training to jobless youth by SDI Visakhapatnam: Skill Development Institute, Visakhapatnam has recently set up a Retail Centre of Excellence offering free residential training for 60 days to give a real-time exposure to unemployed youth for a career in retail.

Bihar

Ashish Vidyarthi to address youths of Bihar on World Youth Skills Day 2019: Bihar Skill Development Mission (BSDM), is organizing a three-day Skills Carnival as part of the World Skills Youth Day celebrations and Ashish Vidyarthi will give a talk to the youth of Bihar on the occasion.

Goa

Goa government to set up 2 skill development centres soon: Goa Chief Minister announced that government will soon set up two skill development centres in the state.

Haryana

ITIs to have performance-based star rating in Haryana: The Haryana Government has decided to introduce competition among the government ITIs by introducing star rating based on various parameters, including pass percentage and industry exposure. This will push them to perform better.

Himachal Pradesh

50 ITIs to be upgraded in Himachal Pradesh by the government: In order to promote skill development among youths, the state government has decided to upgrade 50 government ITIs in which the certificate level of 23 vocational trades of the State Council for Vocational Training would be upgraded to the NCVT level.

Kerala

Kerala calls for better industry-academia links to improve employability: To address employability issues in Kerala, the Higher Education Department organised Bridge-19, an industry-academia meet, in Kozhikode. The event highlighted the need to equip students, especially in the technical field, to improve their employability skills.

Maharashtra

Students opt for ITI courses in Maharashtra due to more opportunities: In the last two years, the ITIs have seen a rise in demand due to work opportunities as mechanics, electricians and allied trade services. In addition, a guaranteed apprenticeship after completion of the course has raised the bar for ITI in Maharashtra

Construction sites to have only skilled labour in Maharashtra: MahaRERA’s objective is to ensure quality work being carried out on construction projects. To ensure that, MahaRERA has trained experts who will help the workers upscale their skills and improve quality of the projects.

Nagaland

DUDA empowering youth to become entrepreneurs:The Department of Underdeveloped Areas conducted capacity building training for 54 youths during the last two months, to empower the underprivileged youth towards entrepreneurship and self-employability among the backward districts of Nagaland.

Job fair held in Jalukie, Nagaland: The Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship along with Emporium Skill Training Institute conducted a day long job fair for the unemployed youth of Peren district at Jalukie.
