Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in association with Voice&Data organized the second edition of Telecom Manthan 2019 on 28th June at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi. The strategic focus was on technology-based skills creating a demand for talent pool transformation. The objective of this annual event was to emphasize the importance of the emerging technologies and the need for skills for the future generation.
To cope with rapid transformation in the industry, the telecom sector has to quickly shift from traditional skills to emerging technology-based skills such as Artificial Intelligence, Business Intelligence & Data Science, Cyber Security, Block Chain, Internet of Things, Android, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, Robotics etc. This will increase efficiency of the workforce and enhance productivity and customer delight. The highlight of this year’s Telecom Manthan was to drive the importance of emerging technologies and skills needed for various job roles.
The one-day event was graced by the presence of Lt Gen Dr. SP Kochhar (CEO, TSSC), Mr. Arvind Bali (COO, TSSC) and Mr. P.Balaji (Board Member of TSSC). The policy makers, academia, and decision makers from the Telecom Ecosystem and government dignitaries were also present during the occasion.
Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Dr. SP Kocchar, CEO of TSSC said, “There is a need to adapt to the new-age technologies which are bringing a sea of change across the world. Today AI, Big Data and IoT have become the skills that the telecom sector is looking for and the existing jobs will face an upheaval. The technology-based skills will bring a big change in the telecom sector. Multiple skills will be high in demand and it is going to be visible all around.”
Mr. P.Balaji (Board Member of TSSC) said, “Learning about new technologies have become an important skill these days. Businesses are getting digitally enabled and creating ample opportunities for the young talent pool. Therefore there is a need to adapt to these emerging technologies and stay focused on the needs of the market so that people can work in a multi-cultural environment.”
The Telecom Manthan Awards 2019 were given to innovators and Pioneers appreciating their works in the field of technology. Huawei Telecommunications and Ericsson India Limited were awarded for their outstanding contribution in enhancing skill ecosystem ‘Centre of Excellence’ and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited for its outstanding contribution in skill development “Making Talent More Valuable”.
