Partnership between Facebook and NSDC for digital skills training to youth
National Skill Development Corporation in collaboration with Facebook will train youth and entrepreneurs on digital skills. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will use this partnership to incorporate Facebook’s training on digital marketing skills in its courses, in addition to providing trainees with access to local, domestic and international markets. This programme will include courses on digital marketing, online safety and financial literacy in regional languages conducted by Facebook training master trainers which NSDC has nominated.
Regional IndiaSkills Competitions (East) 2018 hosted by Bhubaneswar
MSDE together with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), organised the IndiaSkills Regional Competitions (East) 2018 in Bhubaneswar. It was a three-day event including a big counselling camp by professional counsellors, over 50 exhibitions by Sector Skill Councils, PMKKs and other technology partners, in addition to conferences and seminars with different stakeholders in the skilling ecosystem. More than 225 competitors across 27+ skill trades competed in this big skill competition held in this region. The participants included were from the states of Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Jharkhand and Meghalaya.
Schools to now have Skill Development Training right from Class 9 in order to increase employability
Keeping in mind the constant complaint from employers about lack of skill in potential job- seekers, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with National Skill Development Council (NSDC), is Planning to make skill development training available in schools. Students can choose to go for skill training in Class 9 and opt out in Class 11 or choose to continue. Alternately, they can also start the training in Class 11.
Logistics Warehouse policy to be implemented by Haryana Government
The Haryana government will soon implement a Logistics and Warehouse Policy to boost the sector. It will also set up, Tool Rooms Technology Centres in IMT Rohtak with an investment of Rs 100 crore to help increase manufacturing and skill development under MSME sector. The government aims to reduce the transportation time of goods through this multimodal logistics hub.
Renewables sector to provide large no. of jobs in India
According to an ILO report India is estimated to create over 300,000 jobs in the solar and wind sectors in five years starting 2017. By 2022, the government has set an ambitious target of 175 GW of electricity from these two sources, which will comprise half the demand for power then. The ILO has used surveys from solar and wind companies, manufacturers and developers. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has stated that, these two sectors had provided employment to 154,000 people in India in 2009 and this number will double by 2022. The ILO has also mentioned that to be able to meet the target, the number of workers required by ground-mounted solar, rooftop solar and wind power projects, will need to increase.
Government considering right to skill training legislation
The government is planning to introduce a rights-based legislation for skill training in the country, in line with laws that are already existing in countries like Germany and South Korea. This move will also give legal recognition to Prime Minister’s the Skill India mission programme. This will help in enforcing skill training, which will significantly improve the employability of the youth in India.
Insolvency Associate course launched by MSDE in DU
The Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister believes that a course like Insolvency Associate would help in generating employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth. He said the program will give youth a chance to be a part of the growing insolvency management profession in the nation. This course in ‘Insolvency Associates’, has been launched in partnership with Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) in Delhi University, It is a new age skill development course which the ministry is adapting to the industry requirement.
254 students certified by the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing in Gujarat
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) along with Ganpat University, showed its commitment to promote Skill India movement by organising a ‘Certificate Ceremony’ for the first batch of students from Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) at Mehsana, Gujarat. The institute gave out the Course Completion certificates to 254 students for skills in various Japanese manufacturing practices and processes. The institute was formed by a collaboration between the governments of Japan and India and aims to create a pool of 30,000 skilled manpower for manufacturing in India. Out of the 254 students who completed the course 24 per cent have been absorbed by the car-manufacturing plant owned by Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd at Hansalpur and they will be hiring 4000 more employees in the future.
TSCOST organised a seminar on creating opportunities in biotech in Telangana
The Telangana State Council of Science & Technology (TSCOST) organised a meeting in which stakeholders from several institutes from across the city participated. It was suggested that the scientific community should focus on human resource development in the biotechnology sector by imparting skills to the unemployed youth, students, research scholars and also the faculty members in the state to make them employable or self-employed or become prospective entrepreneurs. The workshop received a very good response and got the attention of experts from various fields like Research Laboratories, Academic Institutions, Training Institutions and the Industry.
Foundation stone for CARO laid by the Union Minister for Civil Aviation in Hyderabad
The Union Minister for Civil Aviation laid the foundation stone for Civil Aviation Research Organisation (CARO) at the Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. CARO will cater to Air Navigation Systems (ANS) and Airport Engineering research to handle the exponential growth taking place in Air Traffic in the country.
Rs 1200 crores spread over 12 years have been allocated by AAI for establishing R&D infra structure, procurement of tools, skill development and knowledge transfer which will majorly benefit Civil Aviation. This will help AAI in addressing Aviation infrastructure and air traffic management issues and help the Indian Economy.
West Bengal and the British Council to sign MoU to promote skill development and other exchanges
The British Council and the state government will sign a MoU to promote cultural, educational and skill development exchanges between Britain and the state. Some of the things covered under the MoU are celebration of Durga Puja in Britain during Thames Festival, hosting of a River Festival in Kolkata similar to the Thames Festival in Britain, exchanging visitors between Britain and Bengal for cultural exchanges, collaborating for skill development, communication in English and enhancing the overall of employability of youth.
Solar panel maintenance, skill development course inaugurated by Powergrid in Hyderabad
A skill development programme on “Solar Panel Maintenance Technician Training “, was inaugurated at the Ultimate Energy Resource Pvt. Ltd.in Hyderabad. This programme is being organised for the underprivileged students from remote villages of the state through the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Training Under the CSR project of Powergrid. For skill development courses Powewgrid is spending more than Rs. one crore in various disciplines.
Kerala Sahitya Academy to conduct Apprenticeship training
Kerala Sahitya Academy in Thrissur has been approved as a Centre for Apprenticeship training by the, Government and is inviting applications for Apprenticeship training. The eligibility criteria is that the applicant should be a Graduate in Library Science and should have registered at the Supervisory Development Centre.Four applicants will be selected to receive training. Those selected will be given a monthly stipend of Rs.8984/.
Air Conditioning sector faces a severe shortage of skilled manpower
There is a huge shortage of skilled manpower in sectors like Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration where technicians are required for AC installation, maintenance and repair besides manufacturing. According to industry estimates, about 2, 00,000 skilled technicians are required in the air conditioning sector alone.
National Skill Development Council has not yet setup a separate Sector Skill Council for AC and Refrigeration. But organisations like ISHRAE- a Technical Society offer short term courses in this sector to fill the skill gap and provide skill training in this area.
Private ITIs demand uniform fee structure in Odisha
The Government in Odisha has been requested to implement the Director General of Training (DGT) approved fee structure for the institutions by an association representing private industrial training institutes. The state has around 700 private ITIs. The ITI association said that the absence of proper fee structure has created a lot of ambiguity and confusion among students which has caused many seats to be vacant. They also have asked for an online admission process.
Jaquar: Youth to be skilled for National Development
According to the India Skills Report 2018 by the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII), the employability score has gone up by 5.16 per cent this year, hitting a level of 45.6 per cent. The Jaquar Group announced that it will train 300 plumbers in skill development to contribute towards national development by skilling the youth. This training will be conducted through 10 specialised training centres spread across India. The centres will train unemployed youth in specialised skill sets and develop them as trained plumbers.
Budget released for new ITI by AP government
The Andhra Pradesh government issued a budget release order to set up an Industrial Training Institution in the residential setting in Vizag suburbs for an amount of Rs 5.2 crore. This vocational training institution was allocated to Vizag under the centrally sponsored scheme of skill development in the 47 districts that were affected by Left Wing Extremism. This scheme was generated to create skill development infrastructure in LWE-affected districts, had an objective of offering demand-driven vocational courses. They will have both long-term and short-term courses to meet the requirement of the skilled manpower of different sectors in the region.
Arunachal Governor to support skill development centre for PWD
The Governor and the Chief Commissioner for Person with disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and others discussed regarding providing all available benefits to differently-abled people in the State under the different central and State sponsored schemes.
The Governor stressed on effective implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 and Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. He also said that it will provide reservation for the Divyangjan people for their education and employment, which will help in providing a better future and livelihood.
