Jayaprashanthi, Beautician
My name is Jayaprashanthi. I am married and have a son. I am pursuing a Bachelors in Business Management. I was initially working from home as a tailor. My husband has his shop next to a beauty parlor were the course that was being offered by ABG and LabourNet – NSDC. was conducted. He informed me about the course and enrolled myself into the course which was free of cost with a duration of two months. Though I was never really very interested in grooming myself I felt that I had to support my family. With tailoring, the customers were limited people came either during festival times and only on a need basis. However, with the Beauty course I realised that the customers would not be restricted and seasonal because grooming services like facials, pedicure, threading and manicure are always in demand.
The first day was a bit difficult as I was nervous, but after coming regularly I got used to the people and the place; they taught us everything including facials, pedicure, threading, manicure, haircut and oil massage. After the completion of the course I offered services from my house for 15 days and within that short period of time I was able to earn about Rs.5000. Now I am getting orders for bridal makeup as well. I have decided to start a parlor of my own- a decision which my husband is very supportive of. He has been assisting me in all the required arrangements as he understands that I am only trying to support him and he has now started respecting my words and I have more say in the house now. I am very thankful to ABG, LabourNet and NSDC for giving me this opportunity because of which I can be useful to my family and earn respect with my new skills.(Location : Gummudipundi, Tiruvallur District, TN)
