India celebrated a landmark occasion, 10 years of the Skill India Mission, with the unveiling of several forward-looking initiatives at Bharat SkillNXT 2025, hosted at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event not only celebrated the journey of the Skill India Mission but also set the stage for the next era of inclusive, AI-driven, and industry-aligned skilling.

India’s AI-ready vision for school students

Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE and Minister of State, Education, Government of India, emphasized the need to equip India’s youth, particularly its vast school-going population with future skills. Launching the SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) initiative, he highlighted India’s bold ambition to become the global leader in AI literacy for children.

“In the next six months, India’s school-going population could make a powerful global statement—that we are home to the world’s largest network of young learners who are not just being introduced to AI, but actively applying it,” said Shri Chaudhary.

SOAR aims to introduce AI fundamentals to students from Classes 6–12 through a structured, modular curriculum. It also includes a dedicated 45-hour training module for educators to foster AI readiness across geographies.

Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and IT, emphasized the role of skills in India’s transformation, linking them with national growth through emerging sectors like semiconductors and global trade agreements.

Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education, underlined NEP 2020’s emphasis on integrating vocational education into mainstream learning and building a system of mobility and opportunity. “This is not just about preparing youth for employment; it is about preparing them for life,” he stated.

From skilling to nation-building: A vision

As India moves toward Viksit Bharat 2047, the initiatives announced at Bharat SkillNXT 2025 reflect a comprehensive and inclusive approach to skilling. With AI integration in schools, digital regulation frameworks, global partnerships, and learner-centric planning, the country is paving the way for a future-ready, resilient workforce.

  • We often talk about innovation, future skills, and employability. But the real foundation for all of this is built much earlier, in our schools.Students from PM SHRI Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS), Bhopal, have developed a smart multi-sensor safety system that can detect gas leaks, fire, temperature, and humidity, along with real-time alerts. What makes this noteworthy is not just the outcome, but the learning process behind it.This is what happens when students move beyond textbooks and engage in hands-on, application-based learning. They don’t just understand concepts; they apply them to solve real-world problems. It’s a reminder that when students are given the right opportunities, guidance, and environment, their potential can translate into meaningful, practical solutions. As conversations around skill education and future readiness continue to grow, there is a clear need to create more such learning experiences in schools, where curiosity, experimentation, and problem-solving are at the core.Because that is where real learning begins.#skilldevelopment #education #studentinnovation #learningbydoing #educationtransformation #STEMEducation #younginnovators
