On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day 2026, National Skills Network-NSN collaborated with the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Ramanthapur, to celebrate this year’s global theme, “Skills for a Shared Future,” through an interactive learning experience. Bringing together students and faculty, the session encouraged participants to explore the future of work through collaborative activities that fostered creativity, problem-solving and reflection on the human skills that will complement technical expertise in an AI-enabled world.Â
The session was facilitated by Dr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder and Director, NSN, who guided participants through a series of experiential learning activities designed to help students think about the changing nature of work and the skills needed to thrive in the years ahead. Rather than relying on presentations or lectures, the program encouraged students to learn by participating, collaborating and sharing ideas.
Reimagining the workplace of the future
Students worked in teams to complete a set of thoughtfully designed activities that challenged them to imagine the workplaces, technologies and learning environments of the future.
The activities included:
- 2035 Smart Factory Control Panel – Students designed control panels for future workplaces, identifying features that could make them safer, more collaborative and efficient.
- Future Skills Passport – Participants reflected on the human skills they believe will remain essential in 2035 while identifying technologies that could support their professional journeys.
- Dream Learning Lab 2040 – Teams envisioned future learning environments where AI, digital technologies and trainers work together to create engaging learning experiences.
- Build a Bridge to the Future – Students represented the journey from learner to professional, identifying pillars such as technical skills, teamwork, adaptability, creativity, ethics and continuous learning.
- Communication and Collaboration Challenges – Interactive exercises encouraged participants to reflect on how humans, AI and automation will work together in future workplaces.
Discovering skills through experience
While the activities encouraged students to imagine the workplaces of the future, one of the most significant outcomes was the human skills that emerged naturally throughout the session.
As students collaborated, solved problems and presented their ideas, they demonstrated several future-ready skills, including:
- Teamwork
- Communication
- Creativity
- Planning
- Curiosity
- Critical thinking
Rather than being taught as separate concepts, these skills developed organically as participants worked together to complete each challenge. The experience highlighted how thoughtfully designed, collaborative learning activities can help students build the capabilities that employers increasingly value alongside technical knowledge.
The session reinforced an important message: preparing learners for the future is not only about technical competence. As AI continues to reshape workplaces, human skills such as collaboration, communication, adaptability, creativity and critical thinking will remain central to employability and lifelong learning.

Learning beyond technology
The World Youth Skills Day session demonstrated that meaningful learning experiences do not always depend on sophisticated technology or elaborate infrastructure. With thoughtfully designed activities, collaborative participation and opportunities to think independently, students can develop the confidence and capabilities needed for future workplaces.
The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on preparing learners not only with technical knowledge but also with the human skills needed to succeed in an AI-enabled workplace. By encouraging collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, such learning experiences help build a stronger foundation for future-ready talent.
