The inauguration of the ITU Construction Academy’s new training centre in Malkaram, Hyderabad, marks an important milestone in advancing skill development for the construction sector. Officially inaugurated on June 18, 2026, the facility is expected to play a key role in preparing a new generation of skilled roofing and construction professionals through practical, industry-led training.

The initiative, supported by M&J Group UK, reflects the growing need for specialized workforce development as the construction industry continues to evolve and expand.

Inauguration of the ITU Construction Academy

The training centre was officially inaugurated by Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The event brought together industry partners, educators, employers, and community stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the launch of the facility and its contribution to skills development.

The inauguration highlighted the importance of international collaboration in creating training opportunities that align with industry requirements and workforce needs.

Focus on industry-relevant construction training

The academy has been established with a clear focus on providing practical and job-oriented training in key areas of construction and roofing.

Training areas include:

  • Flat roofing systems
  • Pitched roofing techniques
  • Construction health and safety
  • Industry best practices
  • Workplace readiness and professional skills

By combining classroom learning with hands-on practical experience, the academy aims to equip trainees with skills that are directly applicable in the workplace.

Addressing skills gaps in the construction sector

The construction industry continues to face a shortage of skilled professionals across various trades. Training institutions that work closely with employers and industry experts have an important role to play in bridging these gaps.

Through its programmes, ITU Construction Academy seeks to:

  • Develop industry-ready professionals
  • Improve employability outcomes for learners
  • Support workforce development initiatives
  • Promote high standards of safety and quality
  • Create sustainable career pathways in construction

The Academy’s approach emphasizes practical competence and real-world experience, ensuring that trainees are prepared for the demands of modern construction projects.

Strengthening India-UK collaboration in skill development

A key aspect of the academy’s vision is its collaboration with employers, industry specialists, and educational partners in both India and the United Kingdom.

These partnerships are expected to support:

  • Industry-aligned curriculum development
  • Knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Employer engagement
  • Workforce readiness initiatives
  • International collaboration in vocational education and training

Such partnerships can help create learning opportunities that reflect global industry standards while addressing local workforce requirements.
