Airbus Signs MoU with NSDC to set up Centre of Excellence in Aerospace Skill Development

The presence of Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC) at Aero India 2017 Bengaluru, Asia’s Premier Air Show signifies the seminal role for skill development in aerospace in India. On the second day of the event, 15th February an important step was taken to set up a aerospace skill development Center of Excellence in Hyderabad.

Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Centre of Excellence for aerospace skill development in Hyderabad, together with the Telangana government, National Skill Development Corporation India and AEROCAMPUS France. The step taken by Airbus will significantly alter the aerospace ecosystem in India.

The event held during the Aero India show in Bengaluru was graced by the presence of Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Shri K. Taraka Rama Rao, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Government of Telangana.

Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC) will play the operative role during the execution of the MoU on behalf of NSDC. Aerocampus Aquitaine France, one of the parties in the MoU will be affiliated with AASSC as a Training Partner. AASSC will provide oversight of Training Delivery process and ensure alignment with National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).

NSDC will assure standards, quality assurance & certification of training with Aero Campus in consultation with AASSC. Airbus Group India will be the Industry Partner and assist with domain expertise, industry trends, curriculum design. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) will come up in Hyderabad.

The Telangana Government will provide space for setting up the Centre and would arrange the initial seed fund for the project. The National Skill Development Corporation will channelise the candidates to the Centre.

The Centre of Excellence in Aerospace Skill Development will soon roll out skill development programs in two domains critical to the country:

  • Aerospace Manufacturing & Assembly and Aircraft Maintenance
  • Repair & Overhaul (MRO)

“This first of its kind Center of Excellence aims to enhance the employability of young aspirants by imparting the required skills to them”, said Rajiv Pratap Rudy. He also said that ‘Skill India’ generates “makers” for ‘Make in India’. Ashish Saraf of Airbus while welcoming the audience mentioned that Skill India & Make in India are two sides of the same coin.

“Telangana has taken a lead in setting up India’s first Center of Excellence in aerospace manufacturing. We understand the importance of skill development in creating a comprehensive and successful aerospace ecosystem. The Center will skill the local youth as per international norms in partnership with NSDC” said K. Taraka Rama Rao.
