Women play a pioneering role in programming and technology. Despite the fact, globally, the participation of women engineers in the technology sector is considerably less. Even today, for many women, technology is not their first choice when it comes to building a sustainable and rewarding career.

However, the story is different for Yashi Srivastava, a tech-savvy girl from Lucknow. Yashi chose to build a career in the IT industry as she loved to face the challenges. Due to her determination, she has proved this career to be a rewarding one by getting an offer from Gojek at a CTC of INR 29 lakhs.

Yashi’s journey towards turning her dreams into reality

Yashi comes from a family of engineers. Her encounter with computers began when she was in grade five. She says, “it was my stubbornness that led my parents to buy a computer. Initially, they thought it was an additional expenditure, but looking back, they are thankful that it happened.”

She has studied Computer Science Engineering from Amity University, Lucknow with a 100% scholarship. She found out about Chegg Inc – a platform that connects prospective tutors to students seeking help when she was in her second year of Engineering. She leveraged the platform to teach students in the USA on subjects like Python, C++ and Theory of Computation.

Meet this tech-savvy girlRemembering those days, Yashi says, “those days I used to wake up at random hours to teach. I had to learn new languages myself before I could teach them to the students and that is how I learnt and fell in love with Python. Today, Python is my primary coding language.”

Her encounter with Women Engineers (WE) program by TalentSprint and Google

When she was in her third year, she found out about Women Engineers (WE), a program offered by TalentSprint and supported by Google. This uniquely designed program addresses a critical problem in the global technology sector – gender imbalance. If selected, women engineers from across the country have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get trained in the skillsets required to excel in the corporate tech world.

She passed the test and the interview for the program which began with a month-long bootcamp in Hyderabad. Her parents were very supportive and were surprised that the program was teaching only girl students as well as awarding scholarships.

In the bootcamp, she learned how to survive in the corporate world – there were classes to help them hone their communication and interpersonal skills, followed by classes on deep-tech subjects that would give them an edge over their peers.

After the completion of WE program, she got an offer from Gojek at a CTC of INR 29 lakhs. Her parents were overjoyed with her achievement.

Yashi is a determined and hard-working girl who lives in the present and believes that everything will fall in place when it’s meant to. She has dreams of becoming an entrepreneur someday. Until then she wishes to work hard for a better future.
