Top highlights in skill education in India

  • NSDC has invited Request for Proposal (RFP) for Empanelment of Sending Organization (SOs) in India for Japan’s Technical Intern Training Program (TITP). Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC

  • The MSDE will soon release the first-ever annual rankings of nearly 15,000 ITIs nationwide, similar to the NIRF, coinciding with a new scheme to skill 2 million youth and upgrade 1,000 ITIs.
  • MSDE, in collaboration with Microsoft, launched the AI-focused SkillSaksham Program at NSTI—Women in Noida, aiming to enhance digital and AI skills in 200 ITIs starting this academic session.
  •  NSDC and World Education Services have partnered to streamline the verification of digital academic records from Indian institutions, enhancing trust and transparency in academic qualifications.
  • NSDC and Emversity have partnered to launch industry-aligned certificate courses and degrees for Allied Healthcare Professionals, co-created with experts to meet global job market demands.
  • MSDE chaired a consultation with state officials on the new scheme for upgrading 1,000 ITIs under a hub-and-spoke model, gathering key insights for implementation.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • CII has proposed a collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh government to conduct region-specific studies and provide skill training to bolster the state’s industrial ecosystem.
  • Hindustan Zinc’s CSR program, Zinc Kaushal Kendra, has secured jobs for over 5,950 rural youth and provided skill training to over 7,100 since 2019, celebrating International Youth Day by empowering youth in its operational areas.
  • The Chhattisgarh government to upgrade 160 ITIs to model status with a Rs 484.22 crore budget, starting with Sakri ITI in Baloda Bazar district under the SIDBI scheme.
  • This year, over 800 girls have enrolled at ITI Berhampur, comprising around 37% of total admissions—the highest percentage in the institute’s 67-year history.
  • The Maharashtra government will offer free vocational higher education for women under NEP 2020 to boost female enrollment in vocational programs and promote equal educational opportunities.
  • TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship aims to skill 2 million apprentices by 2028 through programs like white-collar apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, bridging academic learning with practical skills under NEP 2020.
  • The National Credit Framework (NCF) in higher education offers students greater flexibility to learn diverse disciplines and earn credits, according to AICTE Member Secretary Rajive Kumar.
  • Solidaridad and the Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) have partnered through an MoU to empower women in the Kanpur-Unnao leather cluster with skill-based training, marking a significant step towards a more inclusive and sustainable industry.
  • The Andhra Pradesh government will soon launch the first-ever skill and industry census to deliver on its promise of 20 lakh jobs in five years by linking unemployed youth with industry.
  • AMHSSC, in partnership with bluesign, launched the Foundation to Apparel Sustainability eLearning course, marking a significant step towards sustainable practices in India’s vital textile and apparel sector.

  • COL-CEMCA Conducts Three-Day Workshop on Graduate Employability at YCMOU, Nashik, MaharashtraDr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder-Director, NSN, facilitated the workshop as a part of the Commonwealth of Learning - Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CoL-CEMCA) Project on enhancing graduate employability by integrating appropriate skills into the curriculum.The workshop was organized by CoL-CEMCA in collaboration with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, from 10th to 12th March, 2026, at the YCMOU campus in Nashik, Maharashtra under the guidance of Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
