Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET, UGC
- Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan have partnered to enhance bilateral cooperation in skill development during Pradhan’s three-day visit to Singapore.
- At the AMBER Summit, MSDE launched the Project AMBER Report, revealing a 73% success rate in job placements for graduates, with 51% women, and showcasing its impact on employment, wage increases, and the effectiveness of training partners.
- MSDE to host the National Award for Excellence in Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship on September 5, 2024, with nominations open until August 10, and awards presented by the President of India on Teachers’ Day.
Industry Partnerships and Skill Development Initiatives
- The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) has announced the Brigade BCIC Skill Development Park, highlighting government support for industry growth and employment, including CSR mandates for education and new initiatives in tourism and investor assistance.
- ABB India, in partnership with ESSCI, has launched a smart center for electrician training in Faridabad, offering over 540 hours of training and job placement support to enhance employment opportunities in line with the National Education Policy, 2020.
- Canon India has opened two new Skill Centres in Delhi and Mumbai to train over 2,500 youth from urban slums in essential skills for customer-centric jobs, aligned with the Skill India mission and targeting those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) backgrounds.
- In FY24, Maruti Suzuki trained over 12,000 ITI students and is enhancing job opportunities through its Japan India Institute for Manufacturing and by adopting 22 ITIs across India.
Stakeholder collaboration – Academia and Government
- The state Assembly has passed the ‘Young India Skills University Telangana (Public-Private Partnership) Bill-2024,’ establishing a premier skill education institution offering 17 specialized courses in various fields.
- The government of Telangana in collaboration with Tata company to upgrade all ITIs in the state and equip the students to enhance their skills and employability.
- The University of Adelaide has spearheaded an international consortium to launch five new agricultural vocational training courses in India, focusing on digital agriculture, carbon farming, and organic farming, with funding from the Federal Government.
- The Furniture and Fittings Skill Council marked its 9th Foundation Day with the launch of a new Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, inaugurated by Minister Jayant Chaudhary, aimed at advancing industry skills and growth.
- The TISS School of Skill Education held an orientation on August 9, 2024, for 3,030 new students across Bachelor’s, Diploma, and Post Graduate Diploma programs, forming 55 new batches at 587 locations nationwide.
- The Delhi government has issued show-cause notices to over 600 schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in vocational courses, requiring explanations within 15 days.
- The Tamil Nadu Government is introducing a new technical textile course in polytechnic colleges and ITIs to address skill gaps and enhance textile quality in the state.
- The Union Budget highlights a focus on skill development for future generations, advocating for universities to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for Industry 5.0.
- Hindu College, in partnership with HSSC and MSDE, has launched its first green hydrogen skill training program under PMKVY, advancing India’s position in sustainable energy as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
- PW Skills has launched the School of Healthcare across five Indian cities to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare workers, with specialized courses designed to meet industry needs.
- Odisha plans to establish India’s first international university for the blind, offering education and technical courses.
- World Bank, and the Telangana government discuss partnerships in skill development, Net Zero developments, citizens’ healthcare, diagnostics and electronic records, among others.
- Toyota Technical Training Institute celebrated its 15th batch convocation, honoring 214 graduates from various courses in a ceremony attended by Chief Guest Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji and representatives from Toyota and its affiliates.
- The government of Assam has launched the ‘Nijut Moina Scheme’ to boost girls’ enrolment in higher education and combat child marriage, complementing the existing free admission initiative.
- The government of Andhra Pradesh, led by Education Minister Nara Lokesh, announced India’s first Skill Census initiative to identify and enhance youth skills, improve employment prospects, and boost economic conditions.

- The All India Robotics Association, TASK, and ESSCI have launched the BotSkilling and BotLabs initiatives at T-Hub, Hyderabad, with a goal to train 1 million roboticists in Telangana over the next decade.
- Labour Welfare Minister C V Ganesan opens advanced labs at govt ITI in Salem and the ITIs will focus on providing courses in advanced courses such as automation, industrial robotics and more.
