The skill development and education landscape in India is evolving rapidly, with industry-driven skilling, government initiatives, and global collaborations shaping the future workforce. This week, we bring you updates on major partnerships such as Godrej-Tata IIS, Adani-ITEES, and IHCL-Goa; boosting Industry 4.0, green energy, and hospitality training. Government-led programs, including Swavalambini for women entrepreneurs and large-scale job creation efforts in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, highlight the push for employability.

Skill development updates on CSR, Industry

  • Godrej Enterprises Group signed an MoU with Tata IIS to train youth in Industry 4.0, robotics, and automation with 70% hands-on learning for real-world industry readiness.
  • Adani Group partnered with Singapore’s ITEES to launch Adani Global Skills Academy, investing $240M to train students in Green Energy, Manufacturing, and Hi-tech industries.
  • IHCL signed an MoU with the Goa government to establish India’s largest hospitality skilling centre, enhancing job opportunities for youth in the tourism sector.
  • Johnson Controls-Hitachi and DSEU inaugurated an HVAC training facility to equip students and technicians with advanced skills in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • ASDC and VE Commercial Vehicles conducted hands-on automotive training at Pillai College and Sathyabama University, bridging academia-industry gaps with practical skill development.
  • ESSCI and POSSPOLE signed an MoU to boost skill development in the ESDM sector through training programs, a Center of Excellence, and industry partnerships.
  • The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Assam government signed an MoU at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit to launch a skilling program in the BFSI sector, enhancing youth employability in the state.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and BEML signed an MoU to collaborate on leadership and technical training programs, focusing on skill development and professional excellence in the defence and heavy engineering sectors.
  • AVPL International partnered with Tata STRIVE to launch an enhanced GIS training program in Gurugram, combining technical and soft skills to boost employability and entrepreneurship in GIS and drone technology.
  • South Eastern Coalfield Limited and Apparel Training and Design Centre have signed an MoU to train 400 economically weaker candidates in tailoring and apparel manufacturing across SECL’s command areas.
  • Radisson Hotel Group – South Asia, in partnership with THSC and The Job Plus, is training over 260 youth across India in hospitality skills, aligning with Viksit Bharat and ensuring job placements in leading hospitality brands.
  • Titan Company launched the ‘Leap Centre’ in Tirupur to enhance skill development and support the region’s manufacturing industry.

UNICEF YuWaah Invites RFP for Program Management Units for Two-Year Partnership

UNICEF YuWaah has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) to onboard Program Management Units (PMUs) for a two-year period to oversee and ensure the successful implementation of the program under the supervision of the YuWaah Secretariat.

Skill development updates from the government

  • MSDE in collaboration with NITI Aayog, has launched Swavalambini – a Women Entrepreneurship Program to empower female students in Higher Education Institutions. Read more…
  • The government of Goa has announced NEP 2020 will be implemented in classes 6 to 10, the semester systems will be followed in these classes from the new academic year 2025-26.
  • The government of Arunachal Pradesh has emphasised the need to modernise teaching methods and pedagogy to align with industry demands, particularly for trainees at state’s ITIs.
  • The Madhya Pradesh government partnered with a leading jobs platform at the Invest Madhya Pradesh Summit to create 1 lakh jobs annually and support 38 lakh MSMEs with hiring credits.
  • The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated 1.90 lakh ITI seats across 286 institutes, including 47 women’s branches and 12 exclusive women’s ITIs, to boost skill development in AI, robotics, and emerging technologies.
  • Uttarakhand is advancing education with initiatives like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Residential Hostel and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, providing free education and vocational training for underprivileged children.
  • The government of India discussed India-EU collaborations in education, skills, and research with EU Vice President Roxana Mînzatu, focusing on AI, sustainability, mutual credential recognition, and dual degree programs.

Skill development updates in CSR

  • The Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDIL) signed an MoA with CIPET Ranchi to train 80 Jharkhand youth in machine operation under a ₹68 lakh CSR-funded skill development program.
  • Paytm Foundation and DTU launched ‘Wisdom on Wheels,’ a mobile learning bus offering a certified 3-month computer skills course to underserved students across Delhi/NCR.

 Skilling and upskilling in academia and emerging technologies

  • ITM Vocational University, Vadodara, hosted an Energy Conservation Awareness Workshop with GEDA and a No Drugs Awareness Short Film Competition, promoting sustainability and social responsibility.
  • Vedanta Group launched VEDAS (Vedanta Academy for Sustainability) with AXA Climate to train over 100,000 employees and partners in sustainability, supporting its net-zero and ESG goals.
  • The number of CBSE students opting for vocational subjects has more than doubled in three years, rising from 7.7 lakh in 2021-22 to 17.1 lakh in 2024-25 across 23,752 schools.
  • AP Skill Development Corporation and SkillBee India have partnered to train nursing students for job opportunities in Germany and Europe, aiming to place 1,000 graduates annually.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
