Skill India mission makes a successful landing in Japan! The first batch of Technical Interns from the Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP) were received with a grand welcome when they reached Japan on 17th July 2018. Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP), is an initiative by the Government of Japan to provide technical training to youth from India and other countries. The TITP interns were felicitated by Consulate General, Osaka, Mr. T Armstrong Changsan, Consul General of India, Osaka-Kobe. While sharing his best wishes with the interns, he also appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders and ensured continued support to upcoming initiatives.

The training and orientation of interns was organised under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) between the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India and the Government of Japan, in October 2017.  Signifying exceptional bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of skill development, the training and departure of the first batch of 12 interns has been accomplished within nine months of the signing of the MoC. TITP is monitored by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the aegis of MSDE.

Skill India’s First Batch of Indo-Japan Technical Interns

The young interns, between the age of 23 to 26 years, hailing from rural parts of Southern Tamil Nadu, belong to economically weaker sections of the society. They are academically qualified from polytechnics and industrial institutes in the state. Under the TITP, the candidates received skill training and were oriented in Japanese language, culture, customs and manners. Demonstrating commitment to excel, the candidates worked hard to acquire functional and social skills. The pre-departure training was conducted by native Japanese teachers specifically engaged for this purpose at the Chennai facility of the Sending Organisation – Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with Nihon Technology Private Limited (NTPL).

Highlights

The program is supported by Cooperative FUJI, the Supervising Organization in Japan.

The interns will be placed at Maxell Ltd., the consumer electronic company, at its Ono-Shi and Hyogo prefecture plants in Japan, where they will work for a span of 3-years and can avail an option of a 2-year extension.

They will draw an average monthly salary of Rs.65,000/-.

In his congratulatory remarks Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, said, “Our very best wishes to the interns who will be representing the country. We are confident that these interns will act as Skill India ambassadors in Japan and will also become the role models for our youth. This manpower deployment in Japan is a significant milestone and would go a long way in contributing towards Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of making India the Skill Capital of the World.”

Welcoming the arrival of the first batch of interns in Japan, the Ambassador of India to Japan, Mr. Sujan R. Chinoy said “This is truly an historic development. TITP is an ideal platform through which the strengths of India and Japan could be leveraged for mutual benefit. India’s talented human resources could meet the growing needs of Japan’s economy in diverse sectors. Moreover, the interns trained in Japan would be an asset for the Skill India initiative upon their return to India.”

Congratulating the first batch of interns, Mr. Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC noted that the global supply-demand dynamics in skilled manpower offered opportunities like this for India to reap its demographic dividend. “We thank all our local and international partners involved in getting this important initiative up and running. We remain focused on equipping our youth with skills that can help them be competitive on a global stage”, he concluded.
