Skill India partners IBM to launch Advanced Technical Diploma Program in IT, Networking & Cloud Computing

The domain of IT, Networking and Cloud Computing has been in the forefront of creating many jobs at various levels. This sector has great scope to absorb talent from Engineering streams and other technical disciplines, thereby creating a need for employable Engineering graduates and ITI Diploma holders. In order to create more awareness about this sector, on 13th February 2018, Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) entered into an agreement with IBM India Private Limited at MSDE office, New Delhi. The MoU has been signed for duration of two years in the august presence of Shri Ananthkumar Hegde, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dr. KP Krishnan, Secretary, MSDE and Mr. Chaitanya Sreenivas, Vice President and HR Head, IBM India Pvt. Ltd including other senior officials from DGT, MSDE and IBM India.  

The objective of the MoU is constitution of private public partnership in order to promote higher qualifications for ITI pass outs through creating awareness and expertise in the field of IT, Networking and Cloud Computing so as to enable them to get an opportunity to work with the emerging advanced technology.

Highlights of the MoU between MSDE and IBM

  • Industry relevant courses on Hardware Maintenance, Web Development, Cloud based Development and Deployment and Analytics will be provided in the program
  • The courses will commence at two ITI’s in Hyderabad and Bangalore and one Women’s Only ITI in Noida

skill india ibm technical diplomaExchanging the MoU, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Ananthkumar Hegde said, “This MoU signing with IBM is another step in the technical upliftment of already existing courses in the Skill India mission. Through this, NCVT will tend to empower the resources to be multi-skilled and multi-tasking, so as to scale themselves to the demand of New India.”

Starting first quarter of 2018, the courses will commence at two ITI’s in Hyderabad and Bangalore and one Women’s Only ITI in Noida. The program will include industry relevant courses on Hardware Maintenance, Web Development, Cloud based Development and Deployment, Analytics and Soft skills training and students can seek admission post 12th Grade. Post the successful completion of the course, all the students will be offered five months paid internship by IBM.

Approved by NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) as Level 6 NSQF program, this course will deeply focus on creating a workforce which meets industry’s evolving skill needs. The modules will include a holistic approach such as – partnering with the industry, adopting new learning technologies and delivering experience-based, applied learning.

As a part of this Advanced Diploma, we are working closely with the government and academia to expand and scale these programmes. IBM strongly believes that such industry and government partnerships can go a long way in tapping the immense potential that India’s young and vibrant workforce has, said Chaitanya Sreenivas, Vice President and HR Head, IBM India Pvt. Ltd.

DGT will be responsible for obtaining the approval of NCVT for the course content jointly developed by DGT and IBM. DGT along with IBM will also ensure that the aspirants have the right set of skill and aptitude level for admission into this course. DGT will be responsible for ensuring proper infrastructure at the three proposed Central Funded Institutes (CFIs) in terms of computers, internet, software, power, air conditioning, boarding and lodging of the students and the IBM Instructors and SMEs during their visits etc.

Under the agreement, IBM will support in curriculum development for preparing Industry Relevant Course Curriculum in Cloud Computing and Business Analytics and will also facilitate in training the trainers.
