Skills, Jobs and Entrepreneurship in the Power Sector: QPs and NOS
Ministry of labour and employment has played a big role in providing skill upgradation and skilled manpower and training technicians and is working towards making it better. All ITI and FTIs are doing a great job. To make it industry relevant it has signed a flexi-MOU with Gujarat Industries so that courses can be designed based on industry requirements. For traditional ways of generating energy there are sufficient training systems available, some special training can be conducted only in power plants or substations like electrical transmission, instrumentation etc. These are being covered in apprenticeship training courses and they are also improving existing training methodologies.
Since the need for energy is in various sectors there are a variety of jobs available. There is a lot of scope for growth. In the renewable energy area there are about 3.5 lakh employees in this sector and in the coming 5 years this will increase by 3 to 4 times.

- Solar Electric System Installer etc.
ITI and FTI have industry relevant courses for these and in NCBT under craftsman training there are four courses related to the power sector. These are electro plater, lift mechanic wireman and electrician. These courses can be completed in 2 years the qualification required for the wireman course is 8th pass and 10th pass for the rest of them. There is no dearth of jobs in the power sector. You can have a promising career. A person who does a course in this sector can go from a domestic electrician to a power plant.

Arif Husain, from Patna in Bihar feels his life changed due to ITI. He was always interested in electrical field since childhood and he feels by the grace of God he got to make a career in his chosen field. After completing the ITI course he is working in Bihar electricity board as a switch board operator.
