Highlights of the week

  • In collaboration with Quest Alliance, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and many other curriculum bodies within the MSDE ecosystem, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) revamped the curriculum on employability skills. Read more…
  • The Union Cabinet approved a new centrally sponsored programme called PM SHRI Schools (PM ScHools for Rising India), which aims to strengthen a select number of existing Central Government, State Government, UT Government, and local government-managed schools in order to develop more than 14500 schools.
  • To guarantee that students from the most remote places may access online education resources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) have formed a collaboration.

  • On September 6, 2022, the Ministry of Education launched Shikshak Parv to develop NEP and reward teachers for their contribution to the community, teaching practices, impact on growth of students. Read more…
  • A faculty learning program called “Project Drona” was developed by the Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (Hysea) and Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK).
  • To further expand our educational collaboration and broaden the scope of engagements, the Union Cabinet approved an agreement signed by the Ministries of Education in India and the United Arab Emirates.
  • Union minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, who stressed the importance of increased research and academic collaboration between India and the US in the India Ideas Summit organized by the US-India Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce, International Affairs, South Asia.
  • Union minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated a newly built multi-purpose hall at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Vadnagar, District Mehsana as there should be pride towards our literature, art, philosophy and education.
  • The number of aspiring entrepreneurs trained under the Modi government’s Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program (ESDP) to encourage entrepreneurship among youth has increased 113% in the financial year 2021–2022
  • For the 13th Batch (October 2022) of the Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojna, Indian Railway has released a notification on its official website. Online applications are open from September 7th until September 20th, 2022.

Skill development news from the industry

  • The Department of Employment Generation held a technical workshop for industrial skills as part of the Punjab Skill Development Mission. The program featured about 40 industrialists from a diverse range of industries.
  • To provide income opportunities and assist livelihoods in 6 villages in Bundi, Rajasthan and 8 villages in Tilda, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) has partnered with Godrej Agrovet Ltd.
  • In nine different Indian states, Bridgestone India offers tyre fitters training. Bridgestone India intends to formally train and certify tyre fitters all over the country.
  • JBS Academy has launched the Post Graduate Diploma in Customs Clearance and Freight Forwarding from September 1, 2022 under the Kaushalya Skills University established by the Government of Gujrat.
  • Entigrity and the IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) establish a partnership to enhance skill development and train and upskill 5,000 professionals in India.
  • The first promotion of 19 trainees from the “Aeronautical Structure and Equipment Fitter” vocational training program successfully graduated in June 2022 under the framework of the Dassault Skill Academy in India.
  • A tripartite collaboration between the Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) and ‘ARTIST for Her’ (Asian Research & Training Institute for Skill Transfer) aims to train one million front-line healthcare workers across the country.
  • In accordance with the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM), Larsen and Toubro (L&T) CSTI will offer free training in Pilakhua for 45 to 90 days to about 150 to 180 youths every month.
  • Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) is increasing the importance it places on skill building in order to help marginalized and deserving people find employment.
  • Seva Bharathi, an unaffiliated organization, has operated a “healthcare skill development centre” in Hyderabad. Five batches of nursing assistants received accredited training and were hired by reputable organizations.

  • Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Koira and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to impart dual system training for Stone Processing Machine Operators.
  • Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh announced that the government-run industrial training institute (ITI) in Ludhiana will be transformed into a world-class skill development center and new training courses and modules would be introduced as per the requirement of the industry with the latest machinery.
  • Chief Minister inspected 46 of the 91 ITIs in Tamil Nadu. The inspection’s aim is to ensure that all ITI students gain employment.
  • A monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000 will be granted to girl students in classes 6 to 12 till they finish their undergraduate, diploma, or ITI degrees as part of the scholarship program that the state of Tamil Nadu is launching.
  • Around 1 lakh girl students who attended government schools and are now enrolled in undergraduate degree, diploma, or ITI courses as part of the Tamil Nadu government’s creative scheme to encourage girls to pursue higher education.

Skill development news from academia

  • Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) program for 2022 has opened, and Boeing India has invited applications from university students and early-stage startups across the country.
  • All courses will be made available at the country’s higher education institutions, and colleges with 3,000 or more students will become degree-granting multidisciplinary autonomous institutions.
  • The National Education Policy (NEP-2020) will be implemented to simplify the education system in Uttar Pradesh, with a particular emphasis on providing students with a holistic education that is job-oriented.
  • Class 12 students will receive skill training, and the top 100 teachers and lecturers from J&K will be moved outside of UT for training. J&K will open 500 Atal Tinkering, 1122 vocational labs, and 1352 smart classes.
  • On Teacher’s Day 2022, UP CM Yogi Adityanath presented the State Teacher Award 2021 to 75 teachers. A number of new schools are being built, and five new education portals have also been launched.
  • The Secondary Education Department and Skill Development Mission of the UP government are implementing a program where students in classes 9 and 11 would receive vocational training in eight different sectors.
  • Indian higher education institutions can become multidisciplinary institutions by following the guidelines published by the University Grants Commission.
  • To guarantee that students from the most remote places may access online education resources, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) have formed a collaboration.
  • An additional 25% of university seats in India have been sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for admission of foreign students to undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • With a view to collaborating and coordinating research, teaching, and other academic activities, the Higher Education Department will soon sign Memoranda of Understanding with the IIM and IIT in Jammu.
  • Students in Jammu and Kashmir undergoing vocational training developed creative 3D models of various retail outlets to further art integrated education as envisioned by NEP 2020.
  • On September 5, Kovi Meyase, Addl. Secretary for Labor and Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, opened the final and 12th laps of demand-driven skill development training for multiskilled technicians in the construction sector.

Skill development news from states and UTs

  • Arunachal Pradesh: On September 2, the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) in this East Siang district began the second round of “Skill Vigyan Training,” which was funded by the union department of biotechnology (DBT).
  • Jammu and Kashmir: A skill development centre has been established by the Indian Army to empower local women. These women are receiving training in a variety of areas to help them become independent.
  • Manipur: In collaboration with the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), the Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) has started a residential skill development training program in Imphal focused on fruit processing and value addition.
  • Nagaland: Under Wokha, Nagaland, a 45-day Samarth Scheme handloom weaving skill upgradation is now in progress. Anuranjan Singh, a Wokha MGN Fellow and skill development officer, presided over the event.
  • Odisha: The first skill development centre for TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has been established in Bhubaneswar to give its employees technical training and exposure to new practices power distribution sector.
  • Telangana: Finance Minister T. Harish Rao has decided to collaborate with Larsen and Turbo (L&T) to establish a skill development centre in KCR Nagar in terms of job opportunities by improving the skill base of unemployed youth.
