A new Toolkit developed by the Australia India Institute and partner institutions will help Indian secondary schools integrate applied learning into mainstream education. - India Inc. is rethinking talent development strategies as the gig workforce expands, with companies adopting flexible, skills-focused learning models to support contract and gig workers.
- India and Bhutan discussed expanding cooperation in education, skill development, AI, digital learning, vocational training and teacher development, strengthening bilateral knowledge partnerships and innovation.
- A NITI Aayog report revealed that women comprise just 3-7% of enrolments in core engineering trades at ITIs, highlighting the need for greater gender inclusion in technical skilling.
State initiatives driving skilling and innovation
- The Gujarat government has approved GSHSEB to seek NCVET Awarding Body recognition, enabling nationally recognised skill certifications aligned with NSQF and strengthening vocational education statewide.
- Uttar Pradesh has partnered with Tata Technologies to introduce nine advanced technology courses across 149 ITIs, strengthening industry-aligned skilling in EVs, robotics, IoT and manufacturing.
- Haryana and Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture have partnered to expand skill development, internships and employment opportunities, aiming to place 50,000 skilled youth in Japan over five years.
- The Maharashtra government and JioBLAST have signed an MoU to promote gaming, esports, digital innovation, skill development and youth engagement, strengthening the state’s digital economy ecosystem.
- Chandigarh will invest over ₹120 crore to upgrade two government ITIs into industry-driven Centres of Excellence, strengthening training in emerging technologies and enhancing youth employability.
- Pinnacle Skills has inaugurated a new NSDC-certified training centre in Kohima, strengthening skill development and creating sustainable employment opportunities for youth across Nagaland.
- West Bengal will modernise 51 government ITIs through a public-private partnership model, boosting infrastructure, industry collaboration and the quality of vocational skill training across the state.
- Andhra Pradesh is exploring Singapore’s education model to strengthen teacher training, skill-based learning and industry-aligned education, aiming to improve learning outcomes and student employability.

- Goa has approved a 100% tuition fee waiver for all girls enrolling in government ITIs, promoting women’s participation in vocational education and skill development.

- Diageo India inaugurated a new skill centre in Ponda, Goa, under its Learning for Life initiative to equip youth with hospitality skills and enhance employment opportunities.
CSR initiatives in skills and livelihoods
- Hindustan Zinc’s Shiksha Sambal initiative has benefited over 47,000 rural students in Rajasthan, strengthening STEM education and future-ready skills through year-round academic support and experiential learning.
- NIIT Foundation and Bhual Singh Foundation will establish Uttar Pradesh’s first AI Literate Village, providing AI awareness, digital literacy and job-linked skilling to 400 rural learners.

- Central Sanskrit University has launched an AICTE-approved B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, blending emerging technologies with India’s linguistic heritage from the 2026 – 27 academic session.
