Skill development news from the government

MSMEs are a key component of India’s $5-trillion economy: Underlining the importance of Skill upgradation among MSMEs to bring them at par with globally required standards, the Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, on the occasion of the World MSME day, reiterated the government’s resolve in bringing more MSME players into the formal fold.

NSS survey shows that MSME sector is largest provider of employment after agriculture: The government has taken various steps for generating employment in the country. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises  (MSMEs) are the largest provider of employment after agriculture as per the 73rd Round of National Sample Survey conducted by National Sample Survey Office.

Around 49 Lakh candidates Trained Under CSCM component of PMKVY: According to a latest update from the MSDE under the Centrally Sponsored Centrally Managed (CSCM) component of PMKVY 2.0, as of June 2019, 49.10 lakh (appx.) candidates have been trained in the country.

Electric Vehicle Tech course soon to be introduced in Vocational Colleges: India’s Industrial Training Institutes are launching a course on electric vehicles to train youth in repairing, installing and assembling of EVs.

Apprenticeship-based UG degree course launched in Coimbatore College: Sri Krishna Arts and Science College has recently launched a new apprenticeship-based UG degree programme BBA in Logistics. The programme is based on a MoU signed between the college and Logistic Sector Skill Council (LSC).

Taiwan collaborates with India for vocational training scholarship: AIU inked a pact with Taiwan higher education body at NIT. Taiwan is keen on building bridges with India and its expanded scholarship programme, especially for professional and vocational courses, is in line with the Skill India programme, said Andy Cheu-An Bi, director general, Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, Taiwan Ministry of Education.

Jaquar Group to skill 5000 plumbers: Jaquar Group has inaugurated its latest skill development centre in district Prison, Gurugram in partnership with Art of Living as part of its CSR initiative. It will provide training to 5000 plumbers.

Upskilling painters by Nippon Paints: Nippon Paint’s India decorative division has given professional certification to 10,000 painters across Tamil Nadu along with free professional training at the company’s training academy in Chennai. This will hopefully equip a new generation of painters to find employment in the smaller towns and districts.

Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Skill on Wheels’ brings training to vendors: Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has launched an innovative concept to upgrade skills and capabilities of employees at its vendors. “Skill on Wheels” a unique mobile training center will reach out to Maruti Suzuki vendors located across Delhi NCR region to impart training, to their employees, at their doorstep.

Bird Academy introduces ‘Safety Management System Course for Airlines’ : On the 21st year celebration of Bird Academy, the education vertical of Bird Group became a regional aviation-learning hub by becoming the first ever IATA Regional Training Partner. There has been a great response to their first RTP course, IATA’s ‘Safety Management System Course for Airlines’ and has participants from all across the globe.

Jobs in Solar industry: Solar jobs, are helping India’s transition towards a green energy economy and offer a great opportunity to reduce poverty in rural areas, and also create a wave of entrepreneurship. According to a report, the employment in the renewable energy industry increased to 11 million people in 2018, from 10.3 million people in the previous year and India remained on the fifth spot.

Blue collar jobs to decrease in telecom space with new technologies: With evolving technologies and a growing demand for automation, jobs for uneducated will not exist in the telecom sector in the next 3-5 years, said the Telecom Sector Skill Council CEO at Telecom Manthan 2019.

Establishment of India International Skill Centres: India International Skill Centres, was a unique program launched as a pilot project at 14 centres in the country, with a total of 583 students trained. The program focused on providing Counselling and guidance and Foreign Employment Support for employment opportunities in the overseas market, information on the required skill set, minimum wages etc. to the prospective emigrants.

Andhra Pradesh

Government teachers to be trained to promote of skill development: As part of its initiative to promote skill development in the students, the district administration has proposed to train 10 selected teachers working in government schools with Ananthapuram based Satya Sai Vidya Vahini under Satya Sai Trust.

Jammu and Kashmir

Skill training for youth in Kashmir by Mahindra Powerol: Mahindra Powerol, one of the largest diesel generator manufacturing companies of the country, apart from business expansions in Kashmir is also keen on entering collaborations with ITIs and other institutions for skill development of youth, who can subsequently become part of the industry.

Maharashtra

Conclave organised In Mumbai by PD Hinduja Hospital and MRC: PD Hinduja Hospital & MRC in association with CII and Healthcare Sector Skill Council hosted a conclave on ‘Skilling India – Skilling for Healthier India.’ It was organised to introduce an integrated approach towards developing well-trained medical professionals. HSSC also launched their Western Regional Council.

Odisha

Tata Strive signs MoU with Kalinga Mines for life skill development in ITIs: A memorandum of understanding was signed between Tata Community Initiative Trust and Kalinga Mining Corporation Pvt Ltd for life skill development in Industrial Training Institutes at Bhubaneswar.

Jobs to 2.74 Lakh Youths In Odisha during 2014-19: The Modi Government 1.0 had provided gainful employment to a whopping 2.74 lakh youths in Odisha during the period 2014-19 under its PMKVY program. And Odia youths have got placement in big corporate houses like Hero Motors, Honda2wheelers, SBI card, GE Alsthom, L&T and Hitachi India limited.

    Sir, I am an electrician having 12th pass edn with ITI diploma and working experience with MNC at Abu Dhabi since last nearly five years in the age at 24 want to know the suitability to do diploma course for abroad job hence Pl guide me in regard earliest.
