Kalpana Kishore Sawant, Beautician
Here’s the story of Kalpana Kishore Sawant, a resident of Ghansoli Gaon where she lives along with her husband, in-laws and children. Her husband drives a rickshaw for living. She dreams of opening a parlour of her own and seeing her child become an engineer. Her in-laws supported her throughout her course whereas her husband retsrained her from going any further with this course. However her dreams were too big to be caged in the four walls of the house.
She came to now about LabourNet and their skill based training programs through her friend who had already taken the course and was doing well in her career. She enrolled by paying a course fee of Rs.500 along with an expectation to get a platform coupled with an immense desire to gain knowledge. She says the practical and theoretical approach of the course gave her the adequate exposure in the field.
The non-familiarity with the English language didn’t hinder her path as the trainers in LabourNet guided her and helped her reach the goal she desired to achieve. The English words were translated into Marathi or hindi so that the students get familiar with the words. Thereafter all the mandatory English words were written in Marathi and that helped them learn those. Kalpana talks about how the LabourNet trainers were strict but at the same time, caring like a family. They got the partical exposure as well as theory knowledge in this field. The theorectical knowledge is also important she says, for instance knowing which cream suits which skin type can help you work better with customers.
Thanks to LabourNet, she now earns a decent income and can contribute to her household expenditure and spend for her family’s wellbeing. Her determination and passion got her to a place where she’s independent and self-sufficient. Hats off to all the women like Kalpana who take the step forward and become an inspiration to many others.
