Skill India celebrates 100 years of Champaran Satyagraha movement in Motihari, Bihar

April 2017 marks hundred years of Champaran Satyagraha. To commemorate this occasion Skill India is organising several activities at the place where Mahatma Gandhi started the Satyagraha movement and changed the destiny of India. Skill India mission, under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is celebrating the 100 years of Champaran Satyagraha movement in Motihari, Bihar from 13th to 19th April 2017.

Highlights of the event

  • To train and certify 1275 candidates across 8 job for ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ under PMKVY
  • Organize Rojagar Mela, Skill Exhibition and Skill Competition during the event
  • Skill competitions across sectors like Furniture & Fitting, Agriculture, Healthcare, Domestic Workers, Beauty & Wellness, Automotive, Construction, Gems & Jewellery, Textiles, & Retail.

Speaking on the initiative, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, MoS (I/C), Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, GoI said, “As we celebrate 100 years of Champaran Satyagarha Movement, we are marching towards our new mission of empowering youth through skills and helping them obtain freedom from poverty and unemployment. The power of youth is our biggest strength, which will propel the growth of our economy. We, at Skill India, are committed to our goal of creating ‘Makers of India’, who will help us achieve our Prime Minister’s vision of a ‘New India’.”

Champaran Skill IndiaDuring the seven day event, Skill India will be organizing a host of activities to empower local youth at ‘Zila School, Motihari’. The Skill India exhibition will provide youth with information pertaining to training and placement related activities across ten sectors (Automotive, Agriculture, Beauty & Wellness, Furniture & fitting, Textiles, Construction, Retail, Gems & Jewellery, Healthcare and Domestic Workers). The skill exhibition will also feature several interactive elements such as the online registration booth, Skillfie booth, live demo of skills amongst others.

Furthermore, from 13th to 18th April, NSDC will train and certify 1275 candidates across 8 job roles for ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). NSDC will also organise Skill Competitions across sectors like Furniture & Fitting, Agriculture, Healthcare, Domestic Workers, Beauty & Wellness, Automotive, Construction, Gems & Jewellery, Textiles, & Retail.

Apart from above, a Rojgar Mela will also be organized on 18th and 19th April 2017, where more than 20 companies will participate to recruit skilled manpower in the region.

The Skill India program is a Government of India initiative launched on July 15th, 2015, with the aim and objective to enhance employability and efficiency of the youth of the country which will lead to a brighter future for them. More than 1 crore youths have been trained under the Skill India program in 2015-16, marking 36.8 % growth from the previous year. It is steered by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under the leadership of Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (I/C) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
