Internships are fast emerging as the preferred way to acquire work experience for students. It has also brought in a sense of competition among students to get interned at the best companies in their chosen career paths. Today, many academic institutions are partnering with corporates to facilitate industry exposure before the students actually get placed in their jobs. Internshala, India’s leading internship and training platform and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have signed an MoU on 28th April 2017 to facilitate internships for Indian students.
As per the MoU, all colleges affiliated under AICTE, the regulatory body under the HRD Ministry, will now be able to help their students find internships through Internshala free of cost. Internshala is used by over 40,000 organisations which offer more than 4 lac internships every year. The platform would help students find internships as well as provide counselling and guidance, the release added.
AICTE is working to improve the employability of students and is working to mandate internships for all the students enrolled in AICTE approved academic institutions. AICTE Chairman, Dr. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, said, “We have made internships mandatory for students so that they can be equipped with skills before they take up jobs. Students will get exposure to the work environment and their professional skills including technical, managerial and communicational skills would be honed. Internships would make them industry-ready before they step out of their colleges. We are hoping that, through our partnership with Internshala, colleges and students get easier access to more and meaningful internships.”
The MoU was signed today by AICTE Chairman, Dr. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, in presence of AICTE Vice Chairman, Dr M. P. Poonia, Member Secretary, Prof A. P. Mittal, and other AICTE council members.
Internshala was founded in 2010 and provides internship opportunities to over 1.5 million students registered with it. Students can find internships in a diverse range of fields including engineering, management, applied arts, science, law, design, hotel management, architecture, and so forth.
Sarvesh Agrawal, the founder and CEO of Internshala said, “The Government of India has identified Skill Building as a top national priority and it is heartening to see AICTE take concrete steps to improve the employability of our graduates. We at Internshala strongly believe in the ‘power of internships’. A meaningful internship acts as a launch pad for a student’s dream career as they not only get to practically implement the theories which they learned in their lecture rooms but also get to make more informed career choices. We are excited to collaborate with the AICTE and are looking forward to partner with them in our journey to put a meaningful internship on the resume of each of the 30Mn+ college students in the country.”
In 2016-17, 400,000+ internships (across different streams) were listed on Internshala with average stipend of Rs. 7,500/- per month. 40% of the internships also offered an option for interns to convert the internship into a full time employment upon completion and thus helping students with their job search as well. Both students and colleges can register themselves on Internshala for free.
