2020 Year in review: Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) initiatives and partnerships

In the year 2020, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) focused on collaborations, scalability of programs and schemes and digital skilling among others. This year there have many initiatives and partnerships from MSDE to strengthen the skilling ecosystem amidst COVID-19 pandemic. Let us look back at the year that was, as we share the recap of the initiatives and collaborations that happened this year.

 1. Siemens, BMZ, and MSDE launch IGnITE to promote industry relevant technical education –

IGnITE is an initiative aimed at promoting industry relevant high-quality training and technical education. The focus areas under the initiative would be upskilling of instructors of Government Industrial Training Institutes, improving pedagogy, in-plant training for hands-on learning, continuous industry interface to enhanced employability. 2. Skill India launches ASEEM – an AI-based digital platform to bridge demand-supply skill gap 

MSDE launched ‘Aatmanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping (ASEEM)’ portal to help skilled people find sustainable livelihood opportunities. This AI-based platform aims to strengthen career pathways and to help the students attain industry-relevant skills and explore emerging job opportunities especially in the post COVID era.

3. India and Australia strengthen cooperation in skill development, Vocational Education and Training (VET) –

An MoU has been signed between MSDE and High Commission of Australia, which will establish new pathways between the two countries to share information and best practice between the respective VET systems. The agreement will help identify new ways of working together and areas of possible collaboration that include mutual priority areas of industry engagement, quality assurance models, and teaching standards. 4. MSDE partnered with MoS to skill, reskill and upskill country’s youth in the shipping sector –

This partnership will address the need for skilled workforce in the ports and maritime sector. With umpteen focus laid on skilling and building quality manpower in the shipping sector, the partnership will help in effective implementation of training modules, assessment and the certification process of the candidates. 5. MSDE collaborates with DSDE to set up an International Skill Hub in Goa –

The collaboration is a significant step towards strengthening the skilling ecosystem in the country. It will facilitate the establishment of a state-of-the-art skilling infrastructure in Goa.
