Three lakh migrant workers from 116 districts in states including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are going to be skilled under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan (GKRA). They will be provided with short-term training and recognition of prior learning.

Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship while addressing the 115th annual general meeting of industry chamber PHDCCI via video conference said, “plans are underway to skill, re-skill and up-skill the migrant workers across the country and preparations are complete in this regard. We will skill migrants who are unskilled, re-skill those having skill gaps and up-skill those who want to develop further skills.” PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organized a video conference for its 115th Annual General Meeting on 7th October 2020.

Dr Mahndra Nath Pandey also emphasized on the importance of industry connect skilling and industry demand skilling for achieving the vision of a USD 5 trillion economy and making India self-reliant.

He also said that the main motto behind all these initiatives is to develop capabilities and make India ‘Atmanirbhar’ or self-reliant in various spheres. Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey mentioned about the importance of Atmanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping (ASEEM), a database to bridge the gap of demand and supply of skilled workforce across the sectors.

Three lakh migrant workers“PHDCCI could play a significant role in supporting the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Government as a whole, in achieving its Skilled India mission and overall vision of high economic trajectory and self- reliant India, going forward” , said Dr Mahedra Nath Pandey.

Shri Sanjay Aggarwal, Senior Vice President, PHD Chamber, in his presidential remarks said, “the education and skill development holds a crucial place for supporting India in its journey towards being Atmanirbhar. At this juncture, the focus of the Centre and the States should be to work together to increase the public investment in the education sector to at least reach 6% of GDP at the earliest. As compared to other developed and developing countries, India has a unique window of opportunity for another 20-25 years called the “demographic advantage”. This opportunity must be strategically perceived to achieve the Vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

With a vision to make India the skill capital of the world, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has worked towards making more than five crore people skilled in the country since 2014-15. Also, the Ministry signed various MOUs on skill development with different countries, worked on recognition of Indian skilled youth in the world, and amplified apprenticeship programmes, among others.

  • We often talk about innovation, future skills, and employability. But the real foundation for all of this is built much earlier, in our schools.Students from PM SHRI Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS), Bhopal, have developed a smart multi-sensor safety system that can detect gas leaks, fire, temperature, and humidity, along with real-time alerts. What makes this noteworthy is not just the outcome, but the learning process behind it.This is what happens when students move beyond textbooks and engage in hands-on, application-based learning. They don’t just understand concepts; they apply them to solve real-world problems. It’s a reminder that when students are given the right opportunities, guidance, and environment, their potential can translate into meaningful, practical solutions. As conversations around skill education and future readiness continue to grow, there is a clear need to create more such learning experiences in schools, where curiosity, experimentation, and problem-solving are at the core.Because that is where real learning begins.#skilldevelopment #education #studentinnovation #learningbydoing #educationtransformation #STEMEducation #younginnovators
