Skill development ministry will focus on new age skills for employment: The skill development and entrepreneurship ministry is planning to re-look at its skilling programme after the announcement in the Union budget regarding focus on new age skills to help youth get jobs overseas and to cope with changing job roles.

Skills programmes on aerospace, agriculture launched by PMKVY: The Skill Development Ministry launched training programmes on two new sectors – aerospace engineering and smart agriculture – on the World Youth Skills Day.

Skill training for 5 crore MGNREGA workers as part of 100 days agenda: Under its 100-day agenda, the Centre will revamp MGNREGA, which guarantees 100 days of employment to the rural poor including providing training to upgrade their skills and equip them for better employment opportunities.

Blueprint drafted to customize engineering courses to suit industry requirements by AICTE: India’s engineering schools may have to redesign their education curricula and make their courses more industry-worthy, according to a plan chalked out by the All India Council for Technical Education.

Best courses that fetch jobs in PMKVY are Electronics, Apparel, Retail & Telecom: Based on the placement and salary data collected by NSDC on PMKVY, the best courses for getting a job today are electronics and hardware, apparel, retail, telecom and logistics.

Renewable Jobs increase 5 times in 5 Years according to Skills Council Report: India’s renewable energy workforce has grown five-fold in the past five years. In 2014 19,800 workers were employed and now in 2019, nearly 100,000 workers are employed in the solar and wind industry.

Jaquar Group to train over 10,000 more plumbers by 2020: Jaquar Group, continues its support to the Skill India initiative by announcing that they will train 10,000 more plumbers by 2020. So far 63,000 plumbers have been trained through PAD (Plumber Associated with Dealers) and 2,000 unskilled personnel have been trained through their skill development centres.

CSR project worth Rs 15 Cr by Power Grid in Jharkhand: ‘Power Grid Vishram Sadan’ at RIMS Ranchi was launched as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. In recent years, about 33 projects of about Rs. 35 crores have been initiated under CSR by Powergrid in Jharkhand.

7 top sectors that need reskilling and upskilling: If you work in sectors like IT, Healthcare, Automobile, BFSI, Automotive, Telecommunication, Logistics or E-commerce, you will need to re-skill or up-skill yourself as per the industry needs as 49% of employees fear that their current skill sets will become obsolete in the coming years.

Arunachal Pradesh

NEFTU introduces vocational training courses: The North East Frontier Technical University (NEFTU) in West Siang district observed World Youth Skills Day by registering six different vocational training (BVoc) courses for educated unemployed youths, in association with the NSQF and the NSDC.

Gujarat

MoU signed between Gujarat government and US Institute of 3-D Technology in California: Gujarat government’s education department signed an MoU with US Institute of 3-D Technology in California to introduce the project in seven engineering colleges and technical institutes in the state.

Pilot project to revive defunct government technical schools launched in Gujarat: Gujarat government is planning to revive technical institutes that have been defunct for decades. As a pilot project, a Skill Tech High School in Gandhinagar, was launched with an overhauled curriculum, now in English medium, instead of Gujarati.

Haryana

Japan India Institute opens up admissions to skill manpower: The Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM), in Gurugram, opened admissions for its first batch of students, The institute is a joint initiative between the state government of Haryana and Maruti Suzuki to enhance skill levels among students.

Himachal Pradesh

4.5 Crore skill development project in Biotechnology for Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh government has bagged a huge project of Rs 4.5 crore on skill development from the Government of India for a period of three years to provide quality training in tools and techniques in the area of biotechnology for plus two and graduates students.

Tamil Nadu

District specific skill training programme proposed in TN: The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation conducted a “Skill Gap Study” in three blocks in each of the 32 districts. Based on the study they plan to initiate district-specific skill training for the youth to meet the requirements of the local industries.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh to have two Skill Center of Excellence (CoE)s with joint collaboration between State and Central governments – In a strategic meeting between Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Shri Yogi Adityanath, Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, in Lucknow, a joint decision was made to set-up two Skill Centre of Excellence (CoEs) – one in Greater Noida for Plumbing and one in Varanasi for the Services Sector.

Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
