Skill Development Institute Bhubaneswar (The OIL PSUs Promoted and Indian Oil Corporation managed Skill Academy) celebrated World Youth Skills day 2019 ( WYSD 2019). The event saw enthusiastic involvement from students in various activities to create awareness about Skill India Mission and need for acquiring specific skills.
As part of the celebration on 10th July 2019, SDI organised Kaushal Yuva Samwaad aiming at creating an open dialogue with the youth.
Shri N N Rao, CEO, SDI Bhubaneswar, chaired this open dialogue with the young Skill Trainees to hear their views, ideas, opportunities and recommendations which could help the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in scaling the existing programs and improve the overall efficiency of its projects.
Here are the two key students’ recommendations for encouraging more youth to join Skill Development Program as per the Kaushal Yuva Samwaad:
- Need to improve the positive perception about short-term skill courses with recognition of the Skill India certificate for the jobs in the industry including government organizations.
- State or Central government should conduct common entrance test similar to state/central engineering colleges and short list needy candidates on merit basis with online/offline admission counselling for various Skill institutes as per the desired choice of the students need to be followed.
World Youth Skills Day Celebration with competitions on the theme of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship
On 15th July , various competitions on the theme of “Skill Development and Entrepreneurship” held in the campus; where students participated in Painting, Quiz on India Skills & Slogan Writing.
Ms Pipalisa Sahoo (a CDA Student) came up with this beautiful Slogan : “Be Skilled and Creative to have a sustainable Life”

A part of the celebration videos on Skill India, message from the Prime Minister on Skill India mission, message from the United Nations and World Skills competition details were shared among students for creating greater awareness on the importance of technical skills and vocational education. This event highlighted the need for appropriate job skills development among the youth based on this year’s WYSD 2019 theme of “Learning to learn for life and work”.
