Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Skill Development says Job creation, skill development will remain in focus: Shri Mahendra Nath Pandey took charge as Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and said job creation will remain in focus for the new government. He said the road map for furthering skill development and job creation will be shared later.

Jammu University to set up 3 centres for skill development and entrepreneurship: Jammu University has been selected for Rs 100-crore funding under the Centre’s Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyaan (RUSA) to promote excellence, and is setting up three centres for entrepreneurship and skill development.

IIT-BHU and ESRI India sign MoU for tech support : The Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) has signed a MoU with ESRI India to provide geospatial technology support with skill development for many government programmes like Defence Industrial Corridor Mapping, Namami Gange, Sagarmala and Smart City.

Workshop on 3D printing and additive manufacturing with EOS organised by BSDU: Bhartiya Skill Development University has organised a workshop in association with EOS on ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing and Data Preparation for Metal Additive Manufacturing’. Various researchers, professionals and policy makers from educational Institutes, private and government sector, civil society joined the workshop. Apart from partaking in various activities, they discussed about the transformation and evolution of prototyping in manufacturing over the years.

Lakmé Academy Powered by Aptech launches new centre: Lakmé Academy powered by Aptech (LAPA) launched a new centre in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad. The academy plans to be the biggest player in the beauty and wellness vocational skilling sector and plans to continue its impressive growth in opening training academies in the coming years as well. The brand is a collaborative venture between global education and training leader, Aptech Ltd.

Sivagangai ITI gets Honda skill centre: Honda has opened a skill enhancement centre at the Government ITI in Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu. This is the company’s third centre in the State, after Chennai and Madurai. The centre will offer practical training on technical aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Entrepreneurship promoted in Gujarat villages by NHSRCL: The National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), which is implementing the ambitious bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, is promoting entrepreneurship in Gujarat. After successfully organizing an entrepreneurship awareness camp in Kheda, the NHSRCL is organizing more such camps covering projects across the state.

Toyota cautions that Indian auto sector will suffer huge skill mismatch if not acted upon: Toyota has cautioned that the Indian automotive sector might suffer a huge skill mismatch if proper initiatives are not taken to bridge the growing talent gap. Every year, 12 million people in India are expected to join the workforce across segments, including automobile, but the country’s training capacity is only for 4.3 million.

Stitching has a self-reliant and promising future: AMHSSC has rigorously trained around 5 lakh workers, students in the job role of sewing machine operator under various schemes and placed around 2.5 lakh candidates in the industry after the completion of the training. The job role covers around 70 per cent of the share in the manpower of the sector.

MoU signed for upskilling 1000 Jaipur youths with assured employability: Ambuja Cement Foundation and AU Small Finance Bank, a retail bank have signed a MoU to establish a Skill Training Institute called ‘AU Skills Academy’ in Jaipur district. By May 2020, it aims to provide support and training to 1,130 youth ensuring employment to at least 75% of the trained youth to secure a brighter future for them.

Rs. 40.05 Cr invested by Shriram Transport Finance on CSR: Shriram Transport Finance Company has spent over Rs. 40 Crore of its net profit on corporate social responsibility (CSR) last fiscal and significant sums have gone into education, skill development, healthcare, sanitation and rural development initiatives. Rs 12.45 crore has been invited to provide scholarships to the talent students of weaker section of the society.

Grameen Impact backed by Acumen, Patni to offer credit to skill development firms: Grameen Impact Investments India and Acumen India have launched a Rs 10 crore bond which will provide credit to for-profit enterprises targeting skill development in the country. The bond is called LIFE (Livelihood Innovation Fostering Economy), which is an impact bond focused on sustainable development goals and there will be five beneficiaries of namely, LabourNet Services India Pvt. Ltd, Empower Pragati Vocational and Staffing Pvt. Ltd, Edubridge Learning Pvt. Ltd, iStar Skill Development Pvt. Ltd and iPrimed Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Assam

Skill Development Programme for 10 days On Agriculture At AAU, Jorhat: To make the Northeast an organic region, a 10-day training and skill development programme has been organized by the Extension Education Institute (NE Region) and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare. Altogether 56 experts, research fellows and senior State Government officials from Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam interacted with scientists and other experts from Assam Agricultural University.

Government to provide subsidy of Rs 1.7 lakh for admission in North East Skill Centre: Assam government to provide a subsidy of 1.7 lakh rupees for the admission in the North East Skill Centre. The Mission Director of the Assam Skill Development Mission said that the total course fees of the first batch students would be around 2.2 lakh rupees. He said that 400 students would get admission in the first batch.

Maharashtra

Report shows Maharashtra as the future start-up capital of India: According to a report titled Maharashtra and the exciting growth of its start-up ecosystem” and “Pune 2.0 – The start-up Hub”, Mumbai ranked 7th in terms of growth in VC deals secured in 2015-2017. The report states Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad as emerging start-up hubs in Maharashtra. The total funding raised by Start-up s in Mumbai and Pune between 2014 and 2018 is INR 377 Billion.

Nagaland

MOU signed between PWC and ESTI for skill development and recruitment: Pranabananda Womens College (PWC) and Emporium Skill Training Institute (ESTI) signed a MoU for introducing skill development training and recruitment opportunities in the aviation, hospitality and International Cruises for the ongoing college students at Dimapur

Punjab

Skill development and Employment Generation and Training Department to be merged into one in Punjab: In order to enhance employability of youth in the state, the Punjab Cabinet has approved restructuring of the Department of Employment Generation and Training by merging the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) with it. The newly merged entity would be named the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training.

Punjab Skills Development Mission (PSDM) provides training and jobs to 100 girls : Under the Border Area Development Plan to make women self-dependent, around 100 unemployed girls belonging to villages along the Indo-Pakistan border were placed in an industrial house in Ludhiana after a three-month free training under the Punjab Skill Development Mission.

Dairy farming training for farmers in Ludhiana: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) organised a training programme on dairy farming and entrepreneurship under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme at Barsal village near Jagraon today. A total of 11 dairy farmers, including women, were imparted trained. The participants were encouraged to adopt scientific ways in dairy farming to improve the produce and enhance their economic status.

There is a need to treat skill education on a par with school or college education for GST purposes. The rationale for concessional or nil GST for all forms of education is the same — it must be accessible and affordable to every citizen. Funding for skills training can be put into four categories based on who is paying – government, employer, student or through CSR.
