Skill development updates from the government
- MNRE has launched a ₹2.3-crore startup innovation challenge, in partnership with NISE and StartUp India, to boost rooftop solar and DRE solutions focused on affordability, resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability.
- Tripura has been declared a fully literate state by the Union Ministry of Education, becoming the third in India after Mizoram and Goa.
- The Ministry of Women and Child Development and MSDE jointly launched NAVYA, a pilot initiative to skill adolescent girls in non-traditional job roles across 27 districts, under the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Read more…
- The government of Haryana urged universities to prioritise skill development and industry collaboration, announcing plans for Model Skill Colleges and Schools in every district to boost youth employability.
- The government of Andhra Pradesh has set a target of 20 lakh jobs through tech-driven skill development, directing the use of AI in the Naipunyam portal to align training with global job market needs.
- Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission and MSDE signed an MoU to skill and empower SHG women under the Lakhpati Didi mission, advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 through entrepreneurship and market-aligned livelihoods.
- MSDE released a report titled “Skills for the Future: Transforming India’s Workforce Landscape”, by the Institute for Competitiveness urging demand-driven skilling, as 88% of India’s workforce remains in low-skill jobs, with key insights from PLFS, PMKVY 4.0, and NAPS.
- NCAER’s new study reveals India could generate 35 crore jobs in manufacturing and services by 2030 with robust skilling and investment, supporting its unified framework developed with MSDE to assess skill gaps across seven high-growth sectors.
- Infosys has been granted Awarding Body (Dual) recognition by NCVET, enabling it to assess, certify, and award NSQF-aligned qualifications to boost industry-relevant skill development.

- Nagpur Municipal Corporation has launched an initiative to convert water hyacinth into eco-friendly handicrafts, creating livelihood opportunities for local women.
- The South Zone Regional Abilympics 2025 concluded at IIT Madras with 14 PwDs honoured for excellence, paving the way for India’s participation in the 2027 International Abilympics in Finland.
- In a major shift, the private sector will lead skills training for 2 million youths over five years through industry-designed curricula at 1,000 upgraded ITIs, under SPVs set up by the Skill Development Ministry.
- Godrej Enterprises has partnered with ITIs in Maharashtra to upgrade infrastructure, modernize curriculum, and introduce IoT training under a PPP model to bridge the skill gap in manufacturing and engineering.
- ASDC hosted its Annual Partners Forum 2025 in New Delhi, uniting 250+ stakeholders under the theme “Stronger Together, Transform Tomorrow” to drive collaboration in India’s automotive sector.

Skilling and upskilling in academia and emerging technologies
- Students taking admission in UG courses can pursue apprenticeship embedded programs in 22 colleges and 2 universities to help them be job-ready.
- Magadh University will sign an MoU to set up an MSME Technology Centre at its Bodh Gaya campus, the first such initiative by a state university, offering skill-based and technical programs in collaboration with the MSME Ministry.
- Kerala Sahitya Academy has been approved as a centre for apprenticeship training by the Ministry of Human Resources for one year.
- The State Institute of Capacity Building Sikkim organized a Career Counselling cum Mobilisation Program in Jorethang, launching the state’s official mascot KUZU and honouring 15 successful alumni.
