Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET
- India has begun discussions with the UK on skill mapping and mutual recognition, aiming to enhance job opportunities by linking the NCS portal with the UK job portal and facilitating worker exchange under the MMPA.
- CIPET Centre Chennai hosted its 17th Graduation Day where the Anna university’s Vice Chancellor handed over certificates to graduates and emphasized the importance of AI, ML, and a positive attitude for their careers.
- At the 38th NSQC meeting on 30th May 2024, chaired by Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, 69 NCVET Recognised Awarding Bodies evaluated and approved 156 Skill Qualifications.
Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government
- Schneider Electric has inaugurated a new campus in Bengaluru with facilities for innovation, training, R&D, and skill development, accommodating over 8,000 professionals.
- The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) launched the Centre of Excellence in Guwahati to boost efficiency, product development, research, and skills in the apparel industry, enhancing economic development.
- Germany’s new Opportunity Card, or ‘Chancenkarte,’ offers a one-year residence permit for non-EU skilled workers to seek employment without a permanent contract, based on a points system, with assured financial support for their stay.
- Twenty-seven nurses have been selected through the “Skills Meghalaya” scheme are set to work in Japan, supported by Rs 50,000 each from the Meghalaya government.
- Talent Skill Education and Research Foundation has launched a certificate program in Financial Markets and Analytics with NSE Academy.
- Swarnim Startup and Innovation University and CSRBOX Foundation have partnered to enhance student employability by advancing digital skill development through the IBM SkillsBuild for Academia platform.
- The government of Jharkhand is taking steps to provide jobs to 21,000 to the youths in the private sector to address unemployment.
Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies
- India’s workforce in green jobs, currently at 20%, is expected to double by 2030, covering sectors like solid waste management, agriculture, water waste management, and emerging areas like green transportation and hydrogen.
- C3iHub, IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur and CSJMIF, launched a six-month Cyber Security vocational program at IITK to equip students with essential skills for the cybersecurity field.
- Trainocate, an AWS Advanced Tier Training Partner, launched its ‘AI Mastery Program’ in India to equip professionals and organizations with essential generative AI skills using AWS training programs.
