Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET

  • National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has collaborated with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to advance skill development and lifelong learning in India and gloablly. Read more…
  • In collaboration with VETASSESS, NSDC has proposed a workforce mobility plan to facilitate smoother migration for skilled Indian workers to fill labor shortages in Australia.
  • T-Hub, in collaboration with NSDC and HDFC Bank’s Parivartan Startup Grants, has selected 10 innovative startups for the Skill India Digital Accelerator programme to drive innovation and workforce readiness.
  • NCVET released new ‘Guidelines for Information and Data Security,’ on 27th May 2024, to safeguard personal and confidential data in the VETS ecosystem, aligning with key standards and policies; read more here.

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

  • The University of Jammu is launching its pioneering “Design Your Degree” program, offering students the opportunity to customize their education in alignment with their interests and career goals. The Academic Session begins in August 2024.
  • Draft State Curriculum Framework for school education in Maharashtra proposes removing English as mandatory for Class 11 and 12, with curriculum changes for other classes also suggested.
  • Rajiv Gandhi University conducted skill development training under PMKVY 4.0 to equip participants with essential skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
  • Veranda Learning Solutions has partnered with Karnataka Skill Development Corporation to implement a Wealth Management Course in government colleges at Raichur and Gulbarga as part of the Kalike Jothege Kaushalya initiative.
  • United Commercial Bank PLC held a skill development training for 200 Agri-entrepreneurs from Dhaka at the Krishibid Institute Bangladesh under the Bhoroshar Notun Janala scheme.
  • Internshala and AICTE have renewed their partnership to provide internships and enhance skill development for students that align with their academic pursuits and career aspirations.
  • Three ITIs in Trichy have set up enrolment drive among school dropouts to meet the surge in demand for skilled technicians.
  • IGNOU’s School of Vocational Education and Training to offer a new certificate program in fashion design to prepare students for employment in the apparel industry.
  • Kotak Education Foundation has announced 1,000 scholarships under the scholarship program to support further education of Class 10th+ students from Mumbai.
  • Maharshi Dayanand University has introduced new four-year courses for the 2024-25 session under NEP-2020, offering a blend of major subjects with skill, vocational, and value-added courses.
  • ITIs to be revamped to meet advanced skill requirements of students and prospective employers with two new Tata Bhawans soon in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

  • Rockwell Automation successfully hosted the Smart Manufacturing Summit 2024 in New Delhi, bringing together industry leaders to discuss trends and technologies in various manufacturing sectors.
  • ITI Indore have added new short term and long-term courses on food beverages, electrical vehicles and drones at selected centers in the new academic session 2024-25.
  • Schaeffler India, in collaboration with Don Bosco Training Centre, has launched a six-month training program in EV maintenance for youths, allowing them to obtain an NSDC certificate upon completion.

  • COL-CEMCA Conducts Three-Day Workshop on Graduate Employability at YCMOU, Nashik, MaharashtraDr. Madhuri Dubey, Founder-Director, NSN, facilitated the workshop as a part of the Commonwealth of Learning - Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CoL-CEMCA) Project on enhancing graduate employability by integrating appropriate skills into the curriculum.The workshop was organized by CoL-CEMCA in collaboration with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, from 10th to 12th March, 2026, at the YCMOU campus in Nashik, Maharashtra under the guidance of Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, CEMCA and Dr Jane Agbu , Adviser Higher Education, Commonwealth of Learning.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, honourable Vice-Chancellor, YCMOU, and coordinated by Dr. Amol Shirfule, Director i/c, Yash Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages and Dr. Nagarjun Wadekar, Director, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, YCMOU.As a part of the comprehensive Graduate Employability Project, the workshop brought together academic leaders representing different schools of specialization, course coordinators, and faculty members from YCMOU to strengthen curriculum design with a focus on employability skills and industry relevance.The workshop emphasised the transition from traditional content-driven teaching to outcome-based education using the Results-Based Management (RBM) Framework.
