The future is here and it’s running on 5G! With the Union Budget 2023 putting the spotlight on AI solutions and 5G applications in India, the demand for a skilled 5G workforce has never been higher.

The union finance minister’s vision of ‘Make AI for India’ and ‘Make AI work for India’ is driving a wave of innovation. And the country moves towards establishing 100 labs for developing applications using 5G services and three centres of excellence for AI.

As 5G technology continues to revolutionize the way we live and work, the demand for professionals with the right mix of technical and soft skills has skyrocketed.

However, to cash in on these opportunities, you must have in-depth knowledge about the scope of the 5G technology sector, the in-demand job roles and the skills which will give you the much-needed edge.

5G in India: Skill gap and scope for upskilling and reskilling

Despite the growth of the 5G technology in India, however, there was still a significant gap between the available talent pool and the skills that are needed to support this growing industry.

Reportedly, India needs at least 22 million skilled manpower by 2025 to reap the benefits of 5G. However, the demand-supply gap which stands at 28% as per a report from Telecom Sector Skills Council (TSSC) is alarming.

To bridge the demand-supply gap, upskilling and reskilling of the current manpower in 5G technology have become the need of the hour. And TSSC is taking the lead by planning to train over 1 lakh youth. TSSC also aims to provide employment to over 1.25 lakh candidates across the industry through its placement initiatives.

Aside from TSSC, a number of ITIs under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship have also included 5G-related courses in their curriculum to give students a competitive advantage in the market.

So, if you wish to secure a place in the 5G future, you must invest your time in upskilling and reskilling to meet the industry requirement.

The future is 5G
