Tata Motors Limited’s skill development programs in automotive sector are empowering young girls to take up a career in the automobile industry. As part of a unique initiative to promote “Skill India Mission”, Tata Motors have collaborated with NSDC (National Skills Development Corporation) and Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) for automotive skills development and certification programs. The company also partners with the Directorate General of Training (DGT) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) for implementing NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme).
Many young students, especially girls get an opportunity to develop their skills and start a career in the automotive industry. In their pilot batches across all the TML plants, while 942 girl trainees are presently undergoing training, 350 girls have already been awarded the ASDC Certification in automotive assembly skills. They aim at certifying around 5000 + trainees, both, girls and boys in the next 3 years in various automotive sector skills.
The trainees, after completion of their 1st and 2nd year training at Tata Motors’ Skill Development Center, are assessed through an online test, a practical examination and a viva conducted by the external ASDC ( Automotive Skill Development Council )or RDAT ( Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training ) nominated assessors as per the course contents of ASDC QP or NAPS- Designated Trades. Trainees who successfully pass the examinations are felicitated at a certificates award ceremony.
Tata Motors’ Earn and Learn courses on NAPS and NEEM schemes
Tata Motors’ “Earn & Learn” mode under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and “National Employability Enhancement Mission (NEEM)” mainly targets students from rural areas and small towns. For those students, who are unable to access a quality skill development course, Tata Motors’ programs have become beneficial. With the evolution in automobile manufacturing and service, the need for skilled workforce will continue to increase exponentially. Tata Motors’ programs aim at inculcating the mind-set of quality, productivity, safety and discipline in the minds of students. Through their initiatives, they are able to motivate and develop young girls to enter the growing automotive sector and create a career path in the industry.
