Skills and Jobs: Green and Renewable Energy Industry

The emerging industry of New Green and Renewable Energy has incredible scope to create jobs and promote entrepreneurship. Skill Council for Green Jobs is one of the most recently launched initiatives of the Government of India aligned to the National Skill Development Mission. It is promoted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). 

The green jobs industry has seven sub-sectors. In this the major one is renewable energy which has nearly 8 national occupational standards they are Solar PV, Wind, Small Hydro Power and Energy Storage.

Job Roles: There are 40 Qualification Packs in SCGJ, based on each QP the education qualifications are given. For example, we have

Solar PV Installer – Electrical:   Solar PV Installer – Electrical specializes in electrical installations and commissioning of Solar Photovoltaic Systems.

This job requires the individual to concentrate on the job at hand and complete it without any accidents so diligence and hardworking are desired attributes for individuals performing this role.

Educational Qualification: 10th pass + ITI / Diploma (Electrical, Electronics).
Minimum Job entry age: 18.                NSQF Level: Level 4.

Payroll: The average basic salary of 10,000(per month) is paid for a Solar PV Installer – Electrical, based on person’s experience he/she can earn more.

Green Jobs and Skills

Safai Karamchari:    Safai Karamchari sweeps, cleans and removes garbage from public areas and buildings. He/She removes the garbage and aggregates the garbage in the designated areas. While undertaking the work he/she should maintain personal health and safety.

Educational Qualification: 5th pass, preferably.
Minimum Job entry age: 18.                NSQF Level: Level 3.

Payroll: The average basic salary from 8000 to 10,000(per month) is paid for Safai Karamchari, based on person’s experience he/she can earn more.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician:  Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician specializes in operation & maintenance of the Industrial and Housing Societies Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Educational Qualification: 12th Pass, 10th Pass +ITI/Diploma, 8th pass + 4 years’ experience

as Wastewater Treatment Plant Helper.

Minimum Job entry age: 18.                NSQF Level: Level 4.

Payroll: The average basic salary of 10,000(per month) is paid for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician, based on person’s experience he/she can earn more.  

Solar Lighting Technician:     A Solar lighting technician assembles, tests and repairs different types of solar photovoltaic (SPV) lamps adhering to basic electrical standards.

This job requires the individual to concentrate on the job at hand and perform it with precision.

Educational Qualification: Preferably 8th Pass.

Minimum Job entry age: 18.                NSQF Level: Level 4.

Payroll: Solar Lighting Technician can get 15000 and above as per company rules and his experience in the field.

Transport Duty Manager: The individual at work monitors the work plan, schedule and requirement for transport operations, meet and greet duties and process.

Educational Qualification: Diploma, Graduate

Minimum Job entry age: 18.                NSQF Level: Level 7.

Payroll: A TDM can get 25000 and above as per company rules and his experience in the field.
