Skill development initiatives in India have seen many landmark deliberations, decisions and initiatives in 2016. World Youth Skills Day First edition of India Skills Competition inaugurated on World Youth Skills Day. Launch of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2.0 India International Skill Centres India Skills Online Portal Labour Management Information System (LMIS) Launch of PMKVY 2.0 Highlights of PMKVY 2.0 Short term training Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Special Projects Kaushal and Rozgar Mela Placement Monitoring Industrial Training Institutes(ITIs) Improvement of 400 ITIs through Vocational Training Improvement Project (VTIP) with World Bank Assistance. Upgradation of 1396 Government ITIs through Public Private Partnership (PPP) Upgradation of Government ITIs into Model ITIs Enhancing Skill Development Infrastructure in North Eastern States & Sikkim Equivalence for ITIs As per an MoU between MSDE and NIOS/MHRD ,ITI students will get academic equivalence through credit transfer based on test from NIOS. This equivalence will help in upward mobility in academics, jobs and careers. Apprenticeships Apprenticeships get a new boost with approval of National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). The Scheme has an outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore with a target of 50 lakh apprentices to be trained by 2019-20.The incentive based scheme will be implemented by Director General of Training under MSDE. New initiatives Foundation laid for the first Ever Indian Institute of Skills at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh Approval for the formation of Group ‘A’ Service titled ‘Indian Skill Development Service’ with 263 posts at various levels. First ever placement ceremony conducted for retiring Indian Air Force personnel through Skill Certification in partnership with Ministry of Defence. The launch of Transnational Skill Standards in India by benchmarking to United Kingdom across 82 identified job roles. Launch Of Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana (PMYY) to scale up an ecosystem of entrepreneurship for youngsters. PMYY scheme has a project cost of Rs. 499.94 crore, and will provide entrepreneurship education and training to over 7 lakh students in 5 years through 3050 Institutes. 31 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) and 100 Drivers’ Training Institutes will be set up across the country. MoU and partnerships United Arab Emirates (UAE): MoU and LoI signed between MSDE and United Arab Emirates (UAE)for cooperation in Skill development and recognition of qualifications. MoU will also facilitate workforce mobility, skill development and placement of youth in overseas jobs in UAE. Singapore: MoU signed between Singapore's Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Education Services (ITEES) and NSDC on collaboration in technical and vocational education and training. Qatar: MoU signed between India and Qatar for cooperation in skill development and Recognition of qualifications. MoU will facilitate workforce mobility, skill development and placement of youth in overseas jobs in Qatar. Switzerland: MoU signed between India and the Swiss Confederation for cooperation in skill development. As per the MoU, India and the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation of the Swiss Confederation will collaborate in skill development. Germany: India and Germany join hands on skill agenda. The project will run for three years starting August 2016 with a budget of EUR 3,000,000 (22.6 Crores INR) Australia: NSDC and TAFE Directors, Australia sign an MoU to strengthen cooperation and contribute to the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in India. France: MoU signed with France for cooperation in skill development, vocational education and training in India. MoU between MSDE, NSDC and Wadhwani Foundation: Wadhwani Foundation commits USD 30 – 40 million to support skill development and entrepreneurship initiatives. This is subjected to a maximum 10% GOI spending on mutually agreed schemes for a period of 3 years MoU between MSDE and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to boost to skill initiatives in the Hydrocarbon Sector. Sector Skill Councils Formation of Sector Skill Council for Domestic Workers (DWSSC): DWSSC would certify 25,56,600 candidates, train & certify 1,050 trainers and create standards for 15 Job Roles for domestic workers. International events in skill development held in India ASSOCHAM - Summit and Awards on Skilling India held on 15th March 2016 in Delhi. Some of the awards at a glance: Rajasthan bags Gold Trophy skill development award second time in 2 years; The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) -best state award for skills development; ATDC – the best vocational training provider; DLF Foundation- best NGO: vocational training’; Frankfinn – gold award for best higher vocational institute for skill development; Telangana State skill development mission bags the second position award for best state. FICCI: The one-day FICCI Global Skills Summit or the 9th GSS held in Delhi on 15th September saw active participation from the industry, the government, the training partners and the academia to discuss and deliberate a host of issues related to skill development, employment and employability with emphasis on ‘Skilling for the future’. EIFE: The first ever India International Skill Development Summit & Exhibition (IISDSE 2016) was organised by Europe India Foundation for Excellence (EIFE), on 21-22 November 2016 at The Grand Hotel in New Delhi. The 2-day summit saw active participation from 35 European skill development and Vocational Education and Training (VET) organizations along with the Indian counterparts to explore opportunities for collaboration between India and Europe. Read more... Security Skills Council: Security Skills and Leadership Summit 2016 was held in Bengaluru on 13th and 14th November 2016. This was the 11th conference held in partnership with CAPSI, Karnataka Security Services Association, regional security bodies and many private organizations.
