Diwali Dhamaka was of a different kind this year; the celebration has just ended but the excitement is bound to continue! And what a joyous time it was for skill champions at the World Skills Competitions at Abu Dhabi 2017 and the festive time across the country. India’s commendable performance on the global stage is sure to bring more awareness about skilling, trade based skills, vocational programs and job creation. We hope this small beginning will ignite many to pursue their dreams by matching their innate talent and take different paths to fulfilling careers and professional goals. Andaman: 1.Skill upgradation training launched by NYK in collaboration with Voice of Compassion to India (NGO) at N&M Andaman. 2.The Botanical Survey of India organised a valedictory function for the passing out trainees as Biodiversity Conservationists. The three months course on Biodiversity Conservation was conducted by the Botanical Survey of India and Zoological Survey of India at Port Blair.

Andhra Pradesh: 1.According to the government 3,000 unemployed youth in Tuni Assembly constituency would be provided skill improvement training through the Yanamala Foundation to enable them to secure employment in Sri City .2.Government has taken measures to update technical training for the youth in Kakinada  3.123 farmers will undergo skill training in Singapore where they will learn processes regarding the best practices in fields of business and entrepreneurship.

Assam: The Guwahati Refinery has launched the ìIndian Oil Gyanodaya Scholarship Scheme in order to enhance skill development and employability of the marginalised section of the society.

Delhi: 1. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked all States and Union territories to implement the Food Safety and Certification Programme (FoSTac) for all licensed food business operators; it is mandatory to have at least one certified supervisor for 25 food handlers 2.Bsquare Group started Vocational Training Centre for women in Delhi under CSR to provide vocational training of fashion designing to underprivileged women. 3.The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked owners of closed private technical institutes to resume their operations by forming smaller groups.

Jammu: A skill development centre will be set up at Rajouri district jail for training of inmates in different trades.

Jharkhand: 1.Osaka Industrial Community has assured to help Jharkhand in its industrial development.
2.The JN Tata Vocational Training Institute (JNTVTI) in Jamshedpur has planned to train 15000 youths in the next three years in skills associated with the industrial training sectors. 3.Tata Power, in Jamshedpur has signed an (MOU) with Central Board of Irrigation & Power (CBIP) to co-create, develop, and impart training and skill-development courses to the youth and employees of the power sector.

Karnataka: The Infosys Foundation, has signed MoU with four NGOs , Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Seva Bharati Purbanchal, Kalyan Ashram and Saraswati Smarak Samiti, to support various initiatives in Assam.

Maharashtra: 1.Jewellery body demands global exhibition centre, skill programmes for workers as the goldsmiths are facing a lot of problems. 2.Government has set up a panel to examine perspective plan of varsities. The committee will focus on launching new courses on skill development. 3.FTII launched the first skill course in video editing under which 10 students will be trained. 4.Crisil Foundation has launched 20 Centres for Financial Literacy in Haryana and Maharashtra. 5.The ATS in Maharashtra is training the de-radicalised youth in vocational skills to provide them with livelihoods

Manipur: Government hosted a meeting for all North East labour ministers in an effort to end the alienation of people from the north east.

Meghalaya: The Rivermaki is asking the Northeast India to gear up as a ëLearning Revolutioní is underway- Snapping out of the mundane Education system!

Nagaland: 1.Dimapur hosts North East India Fashion Week at Don Bosco school showcasing the products of eleven weavers and eight designers from seven north east states, except Sikkim. 2.Nagaland University students attend training on skill development and entrepreneurship. 3. Nagaland Governor PB Acharya emphasised on the need for universities to be centres of skill development and entrepreneurship.

Orissa: 1. The Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) has proposed to set up an incubation centre in its premises for young entrepreneurs to promote use of technological breakthroughs among general public. 2.The Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that the Centre has plans to make Odisha as the the laboratory of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Telangana: The newest State in the country, Telangana, is placed in the 9th position on the availability of jobs and is much behind compared to the States perceived to be not as growth oriented as Telangana.

Uttar Pradesh: The Prime Minister inaugurated a Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of activist Nana Deshmukh.

News from the Central government

  • The Union cabinet approved an award in the form of two schemes SANKALP and STRIVE that will benefit nearly 8 lakh teachers employed in central government educational institutions which amount to 6655 crores.
  • The Government of India will send three lakh youth to Japan for on-job training for three to five years as part of the skill development programme, said Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Out of these 50,000 will likely get jobs.
  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship stated that the advertisements for Skill India campaign will now be focussed on featuring real-life success stories of individuals instead of celebrities for an effective outreach and better connect with masses.
  • NHAI, Min of Skill Development to formulate plan to promote skilled workforce for infra projects
  • The 14th annual Summit between India and the European Union (EU) was held in New Delhi on 6 October 2017. The Republic of India was represented by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The EU was represented by Mr. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Mr. Jean Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission.

News from the industry sectors

Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), under National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has released ta Handbook on Job_Roles for Industry under the NAPS at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in the capital.

According to the ASDC the automotive industry will have to create a different set of skills going forward as the current training may not be useful after 2-3 years.

Amazon has announced the expansion of Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Alexa Voice Service (AVS) to India, which will allow developers to build new skills and capabilities for Indian consumers, and also allow manufacturers to start developing products for the Indian market.
