The second fortnight of July saw many events being held to celebrate World Youth Skills Day 2017 and two years of Skill India mission. We saw new life and new vigour being infused through many new initiatives both from the government and the private sector. Let’s make sure that we are able to execute the plans successfully and achieve strategic goals with quality and consistency. News from the states
Andhra Pradesh: 1. Jobsenz has brought a ray of hope for lakhs of job seekers in Andhra Pradesh through skill development and support for employability and jobs. 2. Visakhapatnam region is launching a Skill Development Institute with funds from the public sector oil companies.
Assam : The state partnered with Invest India, parent organization of the Startup India initiative under Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to assist in creating a vibrant support ecosystem for startups in Assam.
Bihar: The Magadh University has asked all its constituent colleges to manage vocational courses on their own instead of engaging private agencies to run such courses from the current academic session.
Delhi: 1. Unity Technologies Announces Centre of Excellence for Industry Solutions and Skill Development in Partnership with Veative Labs. 2. Tata Capital through its skill development initiative ‘ProAspire’ has successfully trained and placed over 3,000 underprivileged students across the country.
Gujarat: Facebook partnered with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India will train 20,000 youth and entrepreneurs in digital capabilities to enable online businesses.
Jharkhand: The government announced at a conference that 1.05 crore youth would be skilled in different trade skills across sectors.
Karnataka: The centre for sustainable development, in association with the department of skill development of the government of Karnataka launched the Green Skills Academy on 6th July 2017.
Maharashtra: 1. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages felicitated 80 students who completed skill training program from Career Development Centre (CDC), Pirangut in Pune. 2. St Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute, Mumbai joined forces with Tata Hitachi, becoming the first institute India that will offer a Dealer Service Induction Training programme to celebrate World Youth Skills Day. 3. Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India, the Real estate developers’ apex body has launched skill training for over 2,500 construction worker 4. The Pune division of the Department of Vocational Education and Training is planning to impart skill-based training to women in tailoring, driving and developing mobile-based applications.
Meghalaya: Meghalaya is witnessing a tremendous growth of young women in the state walking towards the path of progress by involving themselves in skill training and entrepreneurship development programmes.
Nagaland: Pinnacle Skills a Dimapur based skill development organization, won the award for the ‘Best NGO in Skill Development’ at the Indo-Global Skills Summit & Expo.
Odisha: After constituting a skill development authority, Odisha Government is all set to have a Skill University. A State-run or private university will be accorded the status of Skill University, which will monitor all skill development training activities.
Punjab: The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) will soon set up a skill and development programme centre for SC/ST students.
Tamil Nadu: Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched a new initiative on Friday, to train 300 micro and marginal women entrepreneurs.
Telangana: Telangana has earned the distinction of becoming the first state in the country to begin certifying its workforce in the pharma and life sciences sector through the Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge under the ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL) programme.
Tripura:The government is taking initiative to skill the farmers with a formal vocational training for the local practise of jhum cultivation.
Uttarakhand: The Times Of India and Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission on World Youth Skills Day organized a wall painting and graffiti competition was organized in Dehradun with an objective to promote skill education among youngsters.
Uttar Pradesh: The government announced to provide 70 lakh jobs within next five years. The announcement was made by the chief minister on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
News from the industry
Maruti Suzuki aims to train 30,000 youth for workshop jobs in next five years and set up 15 new Automobile Skill Enhancement Centers across the country by end of this year.
Wheebox Employability Test (WEST) which is called the Employment Skill ability test 2017 was launched to test aims to enhance employability and address the issue of what is being taught and skills needed for the industry.
The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) organized a seminar titled ‘Youth and Skill Development’ reflecting upon issues and challenges related to skill development in India.
The government will eventually phase out the franchisee model due to poor compliance under its flagship skilling scheme PMKVY and offer a chance to all franchisees to become training providers.
Muthoot Skill India project in association with Centum Foundation, a Bharti Group company, has come together to impart employability linked skill development training to the underprivileged youth in Haryana.
The NAPS workshop, a series of workshops by FICCI will be conducted across industry clusters surrounding major cities targeting the private sector to promote NAPS and help them fill the skill gap in their workforce.
