With MNCs like Pepsico and Microsoft (LinkedIn) taking the lead, industry-driven skilling and employability facilitation is bound to grow. At the same time, the government proposes to set up 25000 ITIs at Block levels. And, when vocational training is employer-driven, apparently, the battle is half won! Andhra Pradesh: IL&FS launches Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) under PMKVY in the Argiculture sector in Dattalur in Nellore.
Assam: Samsung signed an MoU with the Assam skill development and entrepreneurship department to set up a centre to train youth in repairing mobile phones, televisions and other gadgets.
Delhi: 1. Centum Foundation, the CSR wing of Centum Learning partners US-based Global Reach Out (GRO) to skill the deaf and hearing impaired youth in India. The initiative will provide leadership and entrepreneurial skills to the youth are differently-abled. 2. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Wadhwani Operating Foundation (WOF) enter into a partnership to offer online learning courses in Entrepreneurship to youth under Pradhan Mantri YUVA Yojana.
Jammu and Kashmir: Skill development program for Kashmiri youth by Indian Army successfully concludes in Poonch with certification and recognition.
Jharkhand: 1. CMC Skills Pvt Ltd and Mitcon Consultancy Services Limited are selected by Jharkhand Govt. to establish and operate Mega Skill Development Centre on PPP Mode. 2. Central government announces the plan to open driving training institute, India International Skill Centre (IISC), multi-skill training centre (MSTC) on the second day of Global Investors’ Meet (GIS) in Ranchi.3 Centum Learning organizes pre-placement fair for SJKVY candidates in Ranchi. Karnataka: Karnataka Biotechnology & Information Technology Services (KBITS) and Dassault Systems, a 3D Experience and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) company, will set up a Center of Excellence in ‘Aerospace and Defense’ in Karnataka according to an MoU signed between the two parties.
Madhya Pradesh: At a state-level workshop, Madhya Pradesh Skill Development Mission signs 42 MoUs with the industry to train ITI students in different skills. The industry partners include construction, apparel, IT/ITeS, retail and electronics sectors
Maharashtra: Pepsico signs agreement to train food processing unit workers with a focus to modernise the ITIs as well as work on skill development of workers in various food processing units.
Nagaland: Don Bosco launched the 20th batch skill training for unemployed youth at Don Bosco Tech AIDA centre in Dimapur.
Punjab: First learning, stitching, drafting school for hearing impaired opened in Manawala, Amritsar; it will provide training through sign language.
Tamil Nadu: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) partners with Namakkal based Polytechnic college to set up Professional Development Centre (PDC).
Tripura: In the Digidhan Mela, Skills Minister Mr Rajiv Pratap Rudy, announces the proposal to set up at least one Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in each block of the country to provide skill development training to all. At present 25,000 blocks in India have no ITI and projects have been undertaken to set it up in 15,000 blocks.

Telecom Sector: 1. Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) partners with CyberMedia Research(CMR) to explore new areas in telecommunication for developing skilled human resources in this sector. 2. TSSC signed an MoU with Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), Coimbatore for infrastructure and knowledge sharing for new projects through Research Incubation Cell (RIC)
Power Sector: Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) wins the award for “Capacity building and training” in the power sector at the Central Board of Irrigation & Power (CBIP) Awards 2017
IT-ITeS Sector: As a first project since it was acquired by Microsoft, LinkedIn launches Sangam, job-training project for low-skilled workers in India
Healthcare sector: Vivo Healthcare plans to establish 100 training centres by the end of 2017 in various locations in India, after the strategic funding from Netherlands-based ICCO Investments
Furniture and Fittings Skills Council (FFSC) will conduct a four-day orientation programme for SMEs, carpenters and craftsmen at DelhiWood 2017. The event expects more than 30000 visitors from pan India.
