The PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) 2026 is now open for applications, offering a structured pathway for young individuals to gain hands-on experience with some of India’s leading companies. Positioned as a key initiative to enhance employability, the scheme focuses on bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements through real-world exposure.

With revised guidelines, an increased stipend, and improved flexibility, the 2026 edition reflects a more practical and accessible approach to internships at scale.

PM Internship Scheme 2026 Key Updates, Stipend Increase and Application Process

What is PM Internship Scheme 2026

The PM Internship Scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs aimed at providing paid internship opportunities to youth across diverse sectors. The program connects candidates with top organizations, enabling them to develop industry-relevant skills early in their careers.

Designed to strengthen India’s workforce readiness, the scheme aligns with broader national goals of skill development, industry participation, and job creation.

Key updates in PMIS 2026

The latest version of the scheme introduces several important changes based on feedback from earlier phases:

  • Increased stipend: Interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹9,000, making participation more financially viable
  • Flexible duration: The internship duration has been revised to 6 to 9 months, allowing quicker transition into employment
  • Simplified participation: Norms for companies and applicants have been eased to improve accessibility and completion rates
  • Expanded industry coverage: Opportunities now span across multiple high-growth sectors, including emerging industries

These updates are intended to improve participation, reduce dropouts, and ensure meaningful engagement for both interns and organizations.

Key benefits for interns

The scheme offers a combination of financial support, professional exposure, and long-term career value:

  • Financial Support: A monthly stipend of ₹9,000 throughout the internship
  • Additional Grant: A one-time grant of ₹6,000 to support onboarding and initial expenses
  • Insurance Coverage: Life and accident insurance for the duration of the internship
  • Certification: An official government-recognized certificate upon successful completion

These benefits make the program not only accessible but also impactful for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Focus on real-world learning and employability

A distinguishing feature of the PM Internship Scheme is its emphasis on practical exposure. At least 50% of the internship duration is spent in real work environments, ensuring that participants gain hands-on experience rather than purely theoretical training.

This approach enables interns to:

  • Understand workplace dynamics
  • Develop job-ready technical and soft skills
  • Gain exposure to operations within leading private companies

By prioritizing experiential learning, the scheme is designed to enhance long-term employability and better prepare youth for industry demands.

Eligibility criteria

The scheme is open to a wide pool of candidates across India:

  • Age Group: 18 to 25 years
  • Eligibility: Indian citizens, including final-year students and graduates
  • Employment Status: Applicants should not be in full-time employment

Candidates from varied educational backgrounds; including school-level, vocational, and higher education pathways; can apply, ensuring inclusivity across the skilling ecosystem.

PM Internship Scheme 2026: Application process

Interested candidates can apply through the official online portal of the scheme:

  • Visit the official website: https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/login/
  • Register with basic details
  • Complete the profile with educational and skill information
  • Select preferred internship oportunities
  • Submit the application

The application process is fully online and free, making it accessible to youth across the country.

Industry participation and opportunities

The PM Internship Scheme collaborates with leading companies across sectors, offering participants exposure to real business environments. These partnerships are crucial in ensuring that internships are aligned with current industry needs.

The involvement of large organizations also increases the likelihood of meaningful mentorship, structured learning, and potential employment pathways post-internship.

The PM Internship Scheme 2026 represents a significant step toward building a more employable and industry-ready workforce in India. By combining financial support, structured training, and real-world exposure, the initiative offers a practical solution to one of the country’s key challenges, the gap between education and employment.

For students and young professionals looking to gain relevant experience and strengthen their career prospects, the scheme provides a valuable opportunity to enter the workforce with confidence and capability.
