NSN weekly newsbytes, this week, focuses on 4th EdWG G20 meeting in Pune, India-US collaboration in education and research. This edition of our newsbytes also includes updates from the government, industry, academia, and other stakeholders in the skilling ecosystem.

Skill development news from the government

  • A multimedia exhibition showcasing education best practices, FLN, digital initiatives, research, and skill development was held from June 17-22, 2023.
  • The Ministry of Tourism hosted the 4th G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting in Goa, focusing on rural tourism development and the Goa Roadmap for a sustainable sector.
  • PM Narendra Modi has proposed a five-point plan to strengthen India-USA collaboration in education and research, emphasizing an integrated approach and promoting student and teacher exchanges.
  • The Ministry of Education successfully concluded the 4th meeting of the G20 Education Working Group in Pune. The focus was on foundational literacy, inclusive tech-enabled learning, lifelong learning, and research collaboration.

Skill development news from the industry

  • NSDC and NCVET, under the aegis of MSDE, in collaboration with demonstrated their dedication to making vocational education and skill training aspirational for Indian youth on June 26th, 2023. Read more…
  • Mahindra Logistics has launched a focused training program in collaboration with PMVKY, providing specialized training to over 20,000 drivers across the country, promoting safety and empowerment.
  • SR University’s School of Business in Warangal has an MoU with the Logistics Skill Council of India (LSCI) to introduce a specialized Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program in logistics, based on an apprenticeship model.
  • Naturals Beauty Academy opens state-of-the-art training centre at Ispahani Centre in Nungambakkam offering short- and long-term courses in personal grooming, make-up, among others.
  • NSDC has signed an MoU with Medhavi Skill University and Inter National Skill University to design, curate and develop new age short-term courses in fields such as fashion design, interior design and beauty and wellness.
  • NSDCI and the Indian Nursing Council collaborate to empower nurses with language and domain skill training and aims to deploy 10,000 healthcare workers in foreign countries under Skill India International Mission.
  • Avtar, in collaboration with Google India and ISB, has launched DigiPivot, a training program aimed at empowering women in the field of digital marketing.
  • Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Vocational Education (SVE), and Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) have partnered to offer the Golden Threshold Program, a unique three-year Bachelor of Vocational Education in Hotel Management.
  • ASDC hosted the ‘Partners Forum – 2023’, a skill-oriented annual event with the theme “Skilling the Future Together” aimed to recognize the evolving industry landscape, the skilling ecosystem in developing and enhancing future skills and more.

Skill development news from the academia

  • The central government has introduced “Dakshta” courses on the iGOT Karmayogi Platform for holistic transformation in administration.
  • New-age courses like artificial intelligence, data science, and mechatronics engineering will be introduced in technical colleges in Himachal Pradesh from the new academic session.

Skill development news from the States/UTs

  • Himachal Pradesh: The Himachal Pradesh government has approved a 20-day paid vacation for outsourced vocational training providers working under the National Skill Qualification Framework in various schools.
  • Ladakh: The third Governing Council of Ladakh Skill Development Mission (LSDM) has given the green light for the establishment of skill laboratories in multiple degree colleges across Ladakh.
  • Maharashtra: The government of Maharashtra to implement NEP 2020 over 1400 higher educational institutes in the academic year 2023-24.
  • Punjab: Punjab’s Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries Department will offer a four-week dairy entrepreneurship training for the state’s youth and farmers to promote self-employment.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Udyami Mitra to serve as a bridge between entrepreneurs investing in the state and the government machinery.
  • Tamil Nadu: The school education and police departments have re-admitted nearly 1,000 dropouts in the district for the 2023-24 academic year.

Skill development news from international countries

  • Germany is set to pass a law easing immigration for skilled workers, including an “opportunity card” for job prospects.
  • India is expanding educational and skill development partnerships with Mauritius, UAE, UK, and Oman, emphasizing enhanced cooperation with Mauritius.
