Skill development news from the government

₹5,000 crore to be spent on skilling unorganized workers by the government: The government’s skill mission will shift its focus from the formal to informal sector with an annual expenditure of around ₹5,000 crore, in order to create more beneficiaries. The ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship feels that while there has been an intense focus on the formal sector in the last five years, 93% of the workforce in the informal sector have been left out.

NSDC and KnackApp partner for skill development: KnackApp Inc. partners with NSDC to build a skilled workforce. The robo-career discovery and guidance solution by KnackApp, will help candidates in vocational training programmes with over 90 career opportunities across 17 industry sectors.

76% people got jobs who got trained under ISDS textile scheme: The government said almost 76% of the people trained under the ISDS scheme of the textiles ministry were given employment in a span of seven years.

NSDC and CEDP Skill Institute sign MoU for upskilling youth: In line with its efforts to promote entrepreneurship under the Government’s Skill India Program, CEDP Skill Institute Mumbai has signed a MoU with NSDC. The MoU involves the up-skilling of youths, including providing training and employment opportunities to the candidates from across the country over a period of 7 years.

Applications invited for the July 2019 Batches by TISS – School of Vocational Education: TISS-SVE has a mission to skill graduates, students, and working professionals with classroom training, combined with hands-on work experience in organizations and is open for admissions across departments.

Indian Plumbing Workforce to get skill development training through Project Pankh

Utkarsh India Ltd has partnered with Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC) and will train 2000 beneficiaries across India in the areas of plumbing through a joint collaboration called Project Pankh.

Ola Foundation to enable sustainable livelihood for 5 lakh women by 2025: Ola Foundation has launched a drive to enable sustainable livelihood for 5 lakh women by 2025 by providing employment-linked skills training and financial literacy, and social empowerment through life-skills education.

Himachal Pradesh

MoU signed by HP government For Skill Development Centre: Himachal Pradesh Government has signed a MoU with Himachal Siksha Vikas Dharmarth Sanstha to establish day school and skill development centre for the local community in village Sanwara under Kasauli Tehsil of district Solan. The institute will be established at a cost of around Rs 19 crore and will provide employment to 65 people.

Jharkhand

Skill training on Entrepreneurship Development organised by NML: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, organised a five-day Skill Training Programme on Entrepreneurship Development on Innovative Product Prototyping for MSME.

Karnataka

Quest 2 Learn 2019, the annual summit from Quest Alliance, was conducted at Bangalore with insightful discussions and invigorating sessions on skill development and education for future jobs. The event also saw release of reports and had several parallel sessions attracting enthusiastic participants. The report will be published soon on National Skills Network – NSN.

Odisha

Mega Loan Mela and Skill Development Training Programme organized by Aditya Aluminium: With an objective to promote the women SHGs of the district, a mega loan mela (Fair) was organized by the Aditya Birla Group company, Aditya aluminum, Lapanga in coordination with the Odisha livelihood mission, Sambalpur. The program will support the SHGs entrepreneurs and facilitate credit linkages with banks.

Punjab

Rockman Industries launches its 3rd Skill Development Centre in Punjab: Rockman Industries, a part of the Hero group of India inaugurated its third Rockman Skill Development Centre (RSDC) in Kurali to boost employment opportunities through skill training for the youth of Punjab.

Rajasthan

12488 farmers in Rajasthan to benefit through RPL: Under the Recognition of Prior Learning component of the PMKVY 2.0, upskilling of farmers have been made via bridge course training in the job roles including organic grower, dairy farmer, pulses cultivator. Under this project, 12488 beneficiaries have been enrolled in Rajasthan.

BSDU helps in Uplifting Careers of Youth in Kota: Bhartiya Skill Development University organized a conference in Kota to promote and brief about skill development and its requirement in India. Kota is the top third city in Rajasthan in terms of skilling initiatives. BSDU is helping other state governments in establishing skill universities and replicating its unique model of skill development. It helps the youth to get skills education, training and get jobs in different manufacturing fields.

Tripura

160 youths skilled by PMKVY and NBCFDC: The National Backward Class Finance and Development Corporation and NITCON in collaboration with AIT skilled 160 youths in three different trades under PMKVY in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai. They were trained in General Masson, General Plumber and Domestic Data Entry trades by the local AIT institute over a month and certificates were handed over to the youths.

Uttar Pradesh

Vocational training centre for women inaugurated by CM in Dehradun: CM inaugurated a common centre for 120 women of urban basti, Cheerowali Kandol in Dehradun for providing vocational training to them.

Uttar Pradesh

2 skill centres jointly to be set up by Centre and UP: The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Uttar Pradesh government have decided to set up skill centres of excellence in Greater Noida and Varanasi. The centre in Varanasi would be for the services sector and the one in Greater Noida for plumbing.
