42 lakh teachers to be trained by NISHTHA launched by HRD Ministry: The HRD Ministry launched the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancements (NISHTHA) for training over 42 lakh teachers across the country to motivate and equip them to encourage and foster critical thinking in students.

France and India sign pacts to make digital technology a transformative factor: France and India advocate a vision of digital technologies that empowers citizens, reduces inequalities, and promotes sustainable development, and both the countries also affirm their commitment to an open, reliable, secure, stable and peaceful cyberspace.

Talented Indian participants win hearts at WorldSkills Kazan 2019: The world’s biggest international vocational skills competition, WorldSkills Kazan 2019 got underway with a grand ceremony at Kazan, Russia on 22rd August. The 48-member Indian team, resplendent in colourful attire, wowed spectators as they walked through the parade along with 62 other participating countries.

Latest news from the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)

14 Industrial Training Institutes will go green on November 1 in Kerala: Thanks to Haritha Keralam mission and the Industries department, 14 Industrial Training Institutes of the state will be declared environment-friendly on November 1.As per the programme, rainwater collection tanks, biogas and bio-waste plants will be installed to make the ITI’s environment-friendly.

All government ITIs in Haryana to have Medha’s Employability Skills program: In order to improve the employability skills and employment outcomes of the students of government ITIs in Haryana, Department of Skill Development and Industrial Training in Haryana has signed a MoU with Medha.

Four Smart Trades based on IoT curriculum introduced by ITI Bhubaneswar: The Industrial Training Institute Bhubaneswar, has introduced four smart trades with Internet of Things (IoT) based curriculum to help students get ready for the latest career opportunities in the job sector with IoT.

Rs 2 crore each grant from World Bank for ITI’s in Uttarakhand: The World Bank will give a grant of two crore rupees each to five industrial training institutes in Uttarakhand. This will enable youths of the state gain employment. These five ITIs have been selected out of 88 for the STRIVE scheme under which these ITIs will be renovated and upgraded.

Two new government industrial training institutes to be set up in Agra: The state government has given approval for the development of two new industrial training institutes (ITI) in Agra district. Both of these ITIs will have 500 seats each.

Bhartiya Skill Development University hosts summit for ITI principals in Rajasthan: Bhartiya Skill Development University, organized ‘ITI Principals Summit – 2019’ where about 300 principals attended the summit from across Rajasthan. The purpose of this summit was to identify, understand and resolve different challenges that principals face and come up with probable solutions.

Tech Mahindra providing employment skills to widows in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh: Corporate social responsibility arm of Tech Mahindra Foundation announced its partnership with The Loomba Foundation to give employment-oriented skill training for widows and their children in India with focus on Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Karnataka gets Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s eighth CoE: Continuing its efforts towards sustained focus on skill development and young India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) inaugurated the Toyota Centre of Excellence (CoE) at SJB Institute of Technology, Bangalore. This is Toyota’s eighth CoE in the state of Karnataka.

Boeing and Lakshmi Machine Works partner to offer aerospace tool manufacturing course: Boeing and Lakshmi Machine Works announced the launch of the Aerospace Tool Design and Manufacturing Program to train students on technical skills required for working in the aerospace tool manufacturing sector.

IT companies taking measures to stop attrition of skilled young staff: IT companies are doubling down on efforts to retain young employees skilled in digital technologies through better salary increases, promotions and bonuses for top talent, as well as overall employee value proposition, which includes career growth, and learning and reskilling opportunities.

IL&FS Skills First Batch of Indo-Japan Technical Interns reach Japan: A felicitation ceremony was held at the IL&FS Skills headquarters for the first batch of Indo-Japan Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), who reached Japan on 30th July 2019.

AISECT and iZen launch cybersecurity programmes: AISECT has launched Cybersecurity programmes in collaboration with iZen, a Silicon Valley-based talent empowerment and education technology company. Under this partnership, certificate courses in Cybersecurity Basics and Network Attack Detection will be offered through AISECT’s online learning platform.

Skill development centre launched at Gajuwaka:  The Ministry of Shipping under the banner of ‘Sagarmala’ launched a skill development centre at Gajuwaka, to train youth in rural areas and improve the performance in skill-based sectors across the country.

AP Government to give top priority to skill development: Minister for Education in AP said the state government will give top priority for skill development and start centres for excellence by taking one parliamentary constituency as a unit.

Maharashtra

Courses on Electric Mobility to be offered by colleges in Pune: 3 colleges in Pune will soon be offering EV courses for engineers. The planned course will focus on excellence on electric mobility. The three educational institutes in Pune are – Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), College of Engineering – Pune and the Cummins College of Engineering for Women.

Punjab

Punjab government to ensure 6 months of quality training for technical institutes’ students: The Punjab Government is changing the curriculum in its technical education institutes in order to ensure better job opportunities for the students in accordance with the changing trends in the industrial sector.

Uttar Pradesh

RBS College in Agra to offer 3 new vocational courses: The UGC under the National Skills Qualifications Framework gave a nod to RBS College to start three-year duration B.Voc courses in multimedia animation and graphic designing, nutrition and healthcare sciences, and analytical instrumentation.
