Aiming to be top nation in skilling, India to set up training centres in Mumbai, Kanpur and Ahmedabad: The government is planning to expand rural skill infrastructure and set up three advanced training centres in the country to bring India in the league of other nations like Germany, France, Japan and Singapore in skill development.

India’s moribund apprenticeship structure has been revived. Industry must help take it further: Today, apprenticeship is a valid pathway for youth educated beyond grade five to acquire a skill. Foxconn, will invest about Rs 30 crore in setting up two training centres in India to train: The world’s largest contract manufacturer, Foxconn, will invest about Rs 30 crore in setting up two training centres in India to train about 100,000 people over three years. The move comes as a response to the government’s ‘Skill India’ programme, which seeks to train people to make them employable in the manufacturing sector, according to people aware of the developments.

Roca’s CSR arm and Indian Plumbing Skills Council sign MoU to upskill plumbers: We are Water Foundation India (WAWFI) – a corporate social responsibility arm of Roca Bathroom Products Pvt Ltd, has signed a MoU with Indian Plumbing Skills Council to train 1,600 plumbers across India.
3.9 lakh people trained by Maruti to improve driving skills: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd trained over 3.9 lakh people under learner, refresher and evaluation courses to improve driving skills through seven Institutes of Driving Training and Research in collaboration with state governments.
BNY Mellon along with Stella Maris College and IAHV launches Skills Development Centre: BNY Mellon in partnership with Stella Maris College for Women and International Association for Human Values (IAHV) announced the inauguration of Skill Development Centre in Chennai. The centre aims to educate over 8000 youngsters in essential soft skills and Digital Literacy to be industry ready, in the next three years.
AI skilling in India to be advanced by Microsoft and ISB partnership: The Indian School of Business (ISB) and Microsoft India announced a new partnership, through the creation of the AI Digital Lab, the two organizations will collaborate in research which will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to study issues that are relevant for business and public policy.
ASSOCHAM partners with NSDC and Japanese academy to send 3 young Indians to Nagoya for skill upgradation: India’s skill development programme goes global as three young interns fly to Japan for a three-year programme under the aegis of ASSOCHAM, National Skill Development Corporation and NEC Japanese Language Academy (NJLA).
Skillup and Nasscom Sector Skills Council sign MoU: SkillUp Online has signed a MoU with Nasscom Sector Skills Council for its FutureSkills portal. This partnership will provide courses in artificial intelligence and other skills in demand, with a Nasscom certification.

Dhriiti and GIZ India partner to launch of women entrepreneurship programme in the Northeast: GIZ is implementing the project ‘Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women’ under the name of ‘Her&Now’. The Project’s objective is to promote aspiring and existing women entrepreneurs in India and currently supports women entrepreneurs in Rajasthan, Telangana and Northeast Region. Dhriiti- The Courage Within, has partnered with GIZ, to be its regional implementation partner in the Northeast Region.
Haryana
Kisan Model Schools to be developed as Skill Development Centres: Haryana Chief Minister announced that two Kisan Model Schools in Jhajjar district will be developed as Skill Development Centres
Jammu and Kashmir
Jobs to be boosted in Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre: The central government announced several programmes to boost employment avenues for young people in Jammu and Kashmir. It has decided to revamp all 38 Industrial Training Institute there to improve infrastructure, introduce new technology and courses to make its students ‘employment ready’. It will also have additional 150 skill centres and employment driven skills will be introduced.
Maharashtra
Dassault Aviation to train 105 students through vocational course at GITI Nagpur : Maharashtra government has given its go-ahead for the Dassault Aviation, to start Aeronautical Structure and Equipment Fitter course for three academic years from August 2019 to July 2022 at the Government Industrial Training Institute (GITI) in Nagpur. The vocational course under Craftsman Training Scheme project can train 105 students.
Nagaland
Nagaland proposes to establish ‘India- Taiwan Bamboo Technical Centre’ to facilitate bamboo MSMEs: The centre will be hosted at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC), Dimapur and will be implemented by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) and Taiwanese Bamboo Company in the area of R&D, technology transfer, skill development, exchange of experts, investments in bamboo sector, marketing etc.
Punjab
Scientific poultry farming training given to 30 farmers in Amritsar: 30 farmers under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) participated in a five-day vocational training programme on ‘Scientific Poultry Farming’, where they were provided scientific knowledge on various aspects of poultry farming for skill development and their economic uplift.

ITIs in Rajasthan to be modernised for skill education: The Industrial Training Institutes in Rajasthan will be modernised for facilitating their role in addressing the requirements of industry by evolving expertise in different sectors in order to connect skills with education.
