The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has partnered with Shell India to launch a future-oriented training program focused on Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) technologies.
This collaboration aims to empower India’s youth with industry-relevant skills in electric mobility and renewable energy, strengthening the nation’s green economy vision.
Key highlights: Green skills and EV training program for a sustainable future
1. Scope and implementation
The program will be implemented by the Edunet Foundation, Shell’s skilling partner, across select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
2. Multi-tier training model
- 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs
- 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported EV labs
- 50-hour foundational Green Skills module at additional ITIs without physical labs
3. EV Skill Labs at ITIs and NSTIs
Fully-equipped labs will be established within selected ITIs and NSTIs to deliver hands-on training aligned with current industry standards.
4. Curriculum and industry certification
Jointly developed by DGT, Shell India, and Edunet Foundation, the curriculum covers EV systems, diagnostics, battery technologies, digital tools, and safety protocols. Participants will receive co-branded certification from DGT and Shell, improving their employability.
5. Trainer development and capacity building
Over 250 trainers will undergo a structured Training of Trainers (ToT) program to ensure delivery of high-quality instruction.
6. Placement support
The initiative offers structured career support to connect trained students with opportunities in the green energy and electric mobility sectors.
Aligning with India’s green energy vision
India has been advancing its transition to clean energy through initiatives like the FAME scheme, which supports EV adoption and infrastructure. State-level EV policies in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu further boost local ecosystems, creating demand for a skilled green workforce. This initiative complements these efforts by ensuring the availability of trained professionals to drive the green mobility revolution.
