Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is fast emerging as an effective tool to recognize informal learning and respect skills that are acquired by observing and practising on one’s own. Many industry sectors could benefit from PMKVY – RPL since they are heavily dependent on semi-skilled and informally skilled workforce who can brought into the mainstream through RPL certification.
On 30th May 2017, Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers (RAGC) held a convocation ceremony for 160 candidates under Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) program in Mumbai. The RPL Certification was focused on Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council in Mumbai. Till date, more than 2000 students have been trained under RPL program for skills in hospitality and construction by RAGC thus contributing to Skill India initiative of our Honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi.
RAGC was established in 2008 as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Rustomjee Group and has been contributing significantly in vocational education space and has been largely recognized for training/up skilling of over 25000 people across different skill sectors.
The Convocation ceremony was graced by Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLA and President BJP Mumbai-Unit and Mr. Percy Chowdary, Director – Rustomjee group and Mr. Kavi Luthra, VP RAGC.
Also present in the meeting were Dr. Shobhit Kalia, Head Special Projects – RAGC; Rajan Shetty – AHAR Zone VII VP; Santosh Shetty – Owner RK; while Kalinga Shreeji and Vrindavan hotels were represented by Shri Jgnesh Meswani, & Mr Zhaveri, respectively. Organizations like WIPRO- TCS- Wockhardt Hospital & Fortis Hospital have responded positively towards RAGC’s training program.
The Chief Guest Ashish Shelar addressed the Candidates and motivated them by explaining the benefits of the Skill India’s RPL initiative, and appreciated RAGC for taking up the Initiative of training people and providing them with requisite recognition. He suggested that the restaurants which have participated in the Skill India – RPL training should Place a Placard and advertise on the Signboards that the staff employed is trained and certified by The Government under the Skill India –RPL Initiative, which will benefit the restaurants as more patrons will visit these places and assured his team’s co-operation in future.
Mr. Percy Choudhry, Director Rustomjee, informed the gathering that RAGC has trained more than 25000 people in skill training. RAGC has trained more than 2000 people in Hospitality under RPL scheme in past two months and informed that RAGC has a target of 1 Lakh to be trained under the Skill India Mission.
